"Heating up". That's not very definitive. Is it eating up your battery? Have you checked what apps are at the top of the battery use list? What exactly makes you think it's heating up? Some additional info would definitely help others help you.
I'm sure someone can advise you further. One or two of the moderators are very good at this.
You have isolated the data signal as the possible cause. It would help possibly to post battery usage screenshots if you can, and an app like GSam will show the temperature and whats using up power etc. (Examples below)
I'm sure they, are you, can figure it from there.

Hi there, as said previously have only just started reading all threads...do you the top half of the phone, around the camera bit or all of the back... If it's just the top part I also had this problem, mine would heat to alarming levels, almost to the point of not being able to touch it but I found this only really happened when playing ' city management games ' that needed either internet connection or cloud services so I stopped playing them, I researched this and lots of people had different views but then I had a look at the inside layout of phone on some site and figured that it's more of a design issue...all the chips, processor, all that stuff sits in the top half / quater of phone... Have not recently done online gaming but do spend a fair few hours online, browsing, reading all the threads on here, youtube, etc and phone does get warm in top part...also high powered games also make it warm up but no longer to alarming levels...dunno if this helps...

Are the download /upload indicators constantly blinking? If so, something is constantly transferring data. Also, what signal are you getting? A weak signal strength would require more power to transmit /receive and as such could get the phone hot. Also, if you are using it in direct sunlight then the screen would get hot. If you are charging the battery with the screen on, then that could make a difference.
If you aren't getting any cooling down message and your battery life is OK then I wouldn't worry about it.

You can check your battery heat by dialing this number *#*#4636#*#* . Select "battery information" you can find out what's temperature . Check it out
He means that the device runs a high temperature"Heating up". That's not very definitive. Is it eating up your battery? Have you checked what apps are at the top of the battery use list? What exactly makes you think it's heating up? Some additional info would definitely help others help you.
Phones do that if many Web-seeking apps in the background detect an active Internet connection during their routine background runs; once detected they all make overwhelming demands on the CPU which causes the heatup. No it's not the battery that worries me...when I say that it heats, I mean that the temperature rises...the phone warms up really fast and sometimes it can be warmed up to the extent as if it was put out under a scorching sun for an hour or so. But as soon as I turn off tge mobile data it starts to cool off..
