Just wanted to say hi. I have been interested in the Android platform for awhile and I am happy to say I found a good deal on the Motorola Droid and will be switching from my BlackBerry Bold over to Android! I know there are probably a million threads on this but what are the MUST have apps all I know is task killer. Anyways my Droid will be here Tuesday or Wednesday and I can't wait!

Welcome. Please check out the our apps forum for some great ideas on must have apps. We even have one stickied for your convenience. Also, don't assume a task killer is a must have app. We have plenty of info in the stickies on that as well.

welcome aboard. android is somthing that will make you forget about your blackberry, it did to me haha.

and like cory said, the best advice is to go to the app section and search around. there are enough threads in there that if you type in the search box the type of app you are looking for, you will probably find 10 threads on that topic. if you have any other questions dont be afraid to ask. good luck with your new droid

Enjoy the freedom! I came from a BB Storm and now i actually use my phone for more than just email and texts.

Please check out the apps subforum. There are countless "must have apps" threads on every Android forum site out there. Must have is always highly subjective.

Don't use a task killer unless you really know what you're doing with it or you will cause yourself more problems.

Welcome!

I agree with takeshi said - do not use a task killer unless absolutely necessary. I uninstalled my TK 5 months ago, and never found a need to use one. The Linux kernel automatically shuts down apps not in use, and regulates the others.

Enjoy the Droid. I am a bad offender when it comes to switching phones (Went from a Centro to Pearl to Curve to Droid in 6 months), but it has been 6 months from that with my Droid, and I still love it. Although it's starting to be outdated, I have never owned a more rugged (dropped this thing 3 times, once on concrete from 3.5 feet up) or fun (especially if you get into rooting) phone.

My final recommendation is do not spend a lot of money on a screen cover. Most phones require it due to the delicate glass being used, but the Droid uses a product called "gorilla glass", which is many times stronger than ordinary tempered glass. I work in a dirty environment, and use kevlar/tar gloves (cut prevention); however, after having my screen cover off for 3 months, I have yet to have one scratch on my screen. My buddy scratched his iPhone 4 in 2 days.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

Welcome to Android! There are plenty of BB > Android threads so I would look into that if I was you.

Welcome to Android. Be sure to read about the task killer...I've found that its something not really needed. For a calendar I use Jorte, a tip I got from here. Enjoy!

Hi there!

I switched from a BB Tour to a Samsung Moment in April. I couldn't be happier!

Wished I would have waited on the Evo, but oh well...I'm still happy!

Welcome aboard! I abandoned my BB storm in December and I couldn't be happier. There are many useful applications, but they really depend on your needs and interests. Applications I use frequently include feedr (an rss news reader), google voice, handcent sms, tapatalk and weatherbug. Explore the android market and try apps out!
