Help! Can't Root! Tried Everything!

I appreciate the help jack, but it still didn't work.I got the same 4 drivers that I always get and tried rebooting like 5 times. The problem is that the drivers don't fully recognize the phone. Also when I would open up fastboot and press "y" it would close.

Try this. I read on android forums that it is working the optimus v. It's an app you install and run from your phone, no need for a pc and should eliminate your driver
nightmare.

Let us know if it works. My topic yesterday didn't get much feed back. I tried it to unroot my phone and root it worked both times for me.
If it works I can do my write up for rooting stock.

Have u tried turning the phone off while its hooked up to the usb cable? More drivers may install. Also make sure the usb cable is plugged in the back of ur computer.

First of all let me thank everyone for all of the feedback! Secondly, I found out about gingerbreak a few days ago. I ran it (while having the sdcard mounted and usb debugging one) and it says "rooting..... running exploit..... This may take a few minutes! Device will reboot on success!" for a while without doing anything.I guess my question is "does it take like an hour or more?" Because I have let it run for 45 minutes straight before.

Okay, I was having the same problems as you. Here's what I did:
Remove all of your drivers you have installed.
Now follow the instructions in this post. Pretty much, download ROMTools and run 1.exe, 2.exe, and 3.exe. If you get an error on one of them, you have older drivers installed.
Put USB debugging on, and keep the phone on.
Run SuperOneClick, using shell root. It should work eventually.
Now follow the directions in the [How To} at the top of this forum, starting with the command "cd".

I hate to say this but, i have done exactly that before.I have also done many combinations of installing drivers. It seems as though nothing works.
