I am having trouble deciding which to go with. I have the original droid now and its OK. I'm upgrading in a week and need to make a decision. Perhaps someone out there has has experience with both? Gimme some pros and cons of each and ill be very very grateful :)

there's a bunch of threads about this but here's a quick rundown. (i've had both)

fascinate:
pros:
fast
thin
takes better pictures (imo) especially at night
gorgeous screen
UNLOCKED bootloader (though development on this phone is still a little slow thanks to samsung's crappy support)
better SOC (hummingbird is better than the omap in the droid line)

cons:
smaller screen (though whether this is a con or pro is up to you to decide)
no hdmi out
weird file system (can be fixed though)
2.2 isn't on it yet

droid x
pro:
big screen
hdmi out (neat feature, though i never used it...)
2.2 is on it now (though it's quite buggy)

cons:
crappy software
locked bootloader
poor night photos

battery life has been about the same for me.

I have had both and really like the Fascinate. I think it has been a better phone for my needs.

Fascinate has more potential, but if you're going to use the phone in stock trim the Droid X merits serious consideration.

I have both also. I'm selling my X. I like the fascinate much better. Way too many problems with the X for me. 2.2 really made things very laggy for me on the X. That being said the fascinate still being on 2.1 runs much faster at least for me. When 2.2 comes or in a month or so it should only make things better. :)

The Fascinate actually fits in my pocket....

Very TRUE! I carry my phone in my pocket everywhere...the camera hump on the X made it uncomfortable. The Fascinate is still a large phone, BUT it has rounded edges and is the same thickness throughout the whole phone making it quite comfortable to pocket and to use. The X seemed top heavy to me.

Fascinate by a mile... Perfect form factor - thin and great screen size; the super AMOLED screen is visible even in the sun and overall easy to use. The X, is bulky all the way around and cumbersome to hold.

My wife has a fascinate and I have the X.
The main difference for me is how easy it is to read text on the X vs the Fascinate. I use this much more than my pc now and find this very important, while the fascinate has a very beautiful screen (makes the X look like crap when side by side), it is an eye strain when reading text for a length of time, especially small print on web pages. I find that I have to scroll/zoom much more than the X. The pixels are very visable on the Fascinate, barely noticable on X.
They are both great phones but it will be up to your taste. I can't tell you which one you will like more than I can tell you that you will like Twinkies more than Zingers.
Spend some time at the vzw store and thoroughly check both devices. If the sales people bother you tell them that your contract isn't up for another year and the will leave you alone so you can spend some quality time with the phones.

Both have software quirks. Fascinate's gps is nearly useless until the fix arrives.
The 2.2 update on the X introduced some stability issues such as freezing, rebooting, music not playing, all promised to be fixed in the next update. Hopfully.

I just turned in my F for the X yesterday. Really did like the screen on the F and size was just about right. The X does have it's good points but may go back to the F or just wait and see if Big Red is getting the iphone on Dec 1st as goes the talk. If they are getting the ipad on Oct 28 maybe the iphone is just around that big bend!

the ipad deal is nothing special, they are simply selling the wifi ipad with their mifi bundled together. it saves you from going to two stores, but in no way is it a verizon ipad. :\

I wonder, if you did purchase the ipad through Verizon, would you still use the regular itunes or if Verizon would have a program of their own.

Wow, I lold at the thought of VZ Tunes. "For a low price of $9 per song you can listen to your own songs on the iPAD sold at Verizon Wireless!"

it's a bone stock ipad wifi model, verizon is essentially just a retailer of them starting oct 28th, and they are bundling it with their mifi contract free.

they're also going to start selling the galaxy tab starting nov 11th for 600 contract free (no subsidized contract option has been announced)

I was in the same position Droid 1 and looking to upgrade. I went the Fascinate route...

Both are great phones. I say go to Verizon and play with both of em. That's what I did. In the end, it was the form factor that sealed the deal... The X although not really much bigger, just seemed bigger in my hand.
