Android Central Question

Hello technology savvy humans,So So for months now I've been dealing with this and it's been getting increasingly worse and worse I don't know how what they are doing as even possible but I'm also terrible with technology and electronics in general but this is the 2nd time that my I cloud / I tunes password was changed in my account was hacked I can no longer get in to my Samsung account at all because my password is changed to that there are hundreds of apps that I didn't put on the Galaxy S9 that are on there but that I can't find and can't remove in the ones that I can find have been blocked out and I don't have access to remove them at all. This is such a nightmare it's literally like somebody else is now in control of all of my devices and can literally turn my Bluetooth on and off and can even take my text messages away!!! I Woke up this morning and all of my text messages on my iPhone were gone other than the one from my mother... I literally have no control over any of them anymore my windows desktop computer will turn on and off by itself and there is so much weird hidden stuff on there every time I look I find a 100 more things because it's telling me that I ran out of space which makes literally no sense because all I do is use YouTube on it anyway!! When it doesn't let me delete or change things and it to telling me that there is the 2nd iphone that's called Anna's iPhone that has access to all my stuff When really my iPhone is named Anna Argeropoulos's Iphone... So it truly makes no sense how their 2 of them one of which I can't turn off or do anything to on any of the my device settings!!! No techie person I've talked to can help me I'll say it's over their head and that in all honesty it seems like I should throw away those devices and just get new ones?? I unfortunately can barely pay my rent so...

Also about 2 months ago my apartment got broken into and my macbook pro Mac book air and Chrome book were all stolen , along with a new iPhone 6 that had gotten delivered earlier that day then I hadn't taken Out of the Box yet..

Is there anybody out there who can help me? I'm desperate. My passwords keep getting change I am continually getting locked out of everything!! And I swear I'm not a paranoid person but it feels like somebody is watching me all the time.. When my apartment was broken into I only left one time that day months now I've been dealing with this and it's been getting increasingly worse and worse I don't know how what they are doing as even possible but I'm also terrible with technology and electronics in general but this is the 2nd time that my I cloud / I tunes password was changed in my account was hacked I can no longer get in to my Samsung account at all because my password is changed to that there are hundreds of apps that I didn't put on the Galaxy S9 that are on there but that I can't find and can't remove in the ones that I can find have been blocked out and I don't have access to remove them at all. Last thing I should mention is that randomly one day to networks started showing up on my home network and I didn't get a new router change my service or anything like that when. I asked spectrum why this could be happening they said 1 is 3G in 1 is 5G and when I asked her why I needed to have that she said she didn't know and when I asked her if she could take 1 of them off she said no.. So I'm not really sure if that has anything to do a bit but that was pretty strange as well.

And I swear I'm not a paranoid person but it feels like somebody is watching me all the time.. When my apartment was broken into I only left one time that day And I was for one hour to go to the grocery store right down the road. They came back and all of my electronics except for my desktop computer Were Gone.

Thank you

Anna

What you describe is a pretty convoluted web of intrigue, which happens in the movies, but is typically not due to being "hacked" in the real world. It'd be difficult to tease out exactly what's been happening to you, but here are some general recommendations for security:

1. Make sure your devices have good screen locks set up with your fingerprint or a PIN/password/pattern that isn't easy to guess, and make sure the phone is set to lock soon after the screen goes to sleep. If you don't have a screen lock set up, or if you have it set to stay unlocked for several minutes after the screen is off, then you open yourself up to problems in case somebody steals the phone.

2. Make sure you use 2-factor authentication for important accounts, if available -- especially your Google account. https://www.google.com/landing/2step/

3. If you use a public computer (like at the library or at work) and log into any of your accounts, always make sure to log out. If you stay logged in and somebody else uses the computer, they get access to whatever account you're logged into.

4. Don't overshare your life on social media to people who aren't your close trusted friends/family. People often think they've been hacked because others seem to know what they've been doing, but it may just be as simple as reading your Facebook or Instagram feed.

5. Be careful about sharing any private or identifying information anywhere public. The fact that a Moderator had to edit out your phone number from your original post suggests that you may not be entirely conscious of protecting your privacy.

6. If you ever have a device stolen, or if you are ever concerned that an account may be compromised, change the password immediately, and make sure the password is something that is not easy to guess (e.g., don't use your birthday or your kid's birthday).

B. Diddy pretty much said all I was going to say. It's rather hard to hack into Android, and pretty much unfathomable to do as complete of a job across all devices as you are claiming. About the only way that would happen is if you have not been practicing even basic security measures, especially the over-sharing of your private info (like your phone number to this forum). Take a look at this thread, which will help get you started in the right direction of securing your accounts with strong passwords.

I'm just guessing here because, as you said, you're terrible with technology, so you didn't give us the information we really need ... but I'm guessing that you tend to use either the same password on everything, or simple-to-guess passwords like your name, your license plate number, etc. (Naming your phone Anna's Iphone is an example of that. Change the names of your phones, computers, everything, to something like NSA Unit 23549897. That alone will scare some hackers off.)

Get a password manager (I use KeePass) and change every single password on every single account - using 50 character passwords (the password won't go "up" any further than 20, but you can type "50" into it). That's enough entropy to keep someone from getting a password by the time your last surviving grandchild is dead. (If they start getting faster computers, use longer passwords - I know that KeePass will go out to at least 128 characters. Use upper and lower case, digits and special characters. Keep a record of each account. (And don't use an easy to figure out password to get into KeePass.) If you keep the data file in your Google Drive account (under some assumed name, like BirthdayPartyList), you can get the Mac version of KeePass and link it to the same file, and there's Tusk for the Chromebook (compatible with KeePass files), so adding or changing something in one will add or change it for the others.

Spectrum hires the best useless people on the planet. What they meant to say is that one is 2.4GHz and the other is 5GHz - and that would just be wrong (not stupid, as the 3G/5G answer was). The networks you see on your router are the networks in your vicinity. If a neighbor gets a router and uses it, you'll see it. Nothing mysterious or nefarious about that.

My router is on 24.7 (but heavily firewalled enough that it would take a good network engineer to get into it), but I see networks popping on and off all the time. Some people turn their routers off when they're not using them, then turn them on again when they need them. And you see the names popping up and disappearing. Nothing to worry about (or even think about). And stop calling Spectrum for tech support - the produce manager at your local Walmart probably knows more. Ask here (or on iMore for iPhones). If no one can answer your question, they can look up a site you can ask it on. (I do that at least 5 or 6 times a day when I'm here.)
