downloaded google voice cause someone said that it would give me free phone calls while in canada. noticed i wasnt receiving any texts today while i should have been. finally opened the google voice app and all my texts suddenly bombarded me in an annoying google voice format. its not worth it, i want my normal texting back. I deleted google voice and that did nothing, my texts were now floating around in limbo/inception until i reinstalled google voice just to respond to them. f this. how can i get back to normal everything please?

It's been a while since I messed with the settings, but somewhere during the installation process, you enabled Sprint integration. Not sure how I got it uninstalled and back to normal, but there was a couple threads about it on XDA I used. Seems like you have to go online and deactivate your GV number or something, then uninstall. Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but hope this helps

EDIT: Found this http://www.google.com/support/voice/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1207078

You can use any text client you want, you just go to the Google Voice app on your phone and make sure that the box labeled "Notifications via text message" is checked. Then un-check "Inbox notifications"

Exactly. That option is under sync and notifications on the GV android app.

I was ready to disable my Voice account until a week ago when I found out how to use Handcent for all texts and not receive double notifications. There were some settings I had to change online and some on my phone itself but I finally got it working correctly. I am getting ready to go to work but I'll check back and if people need more information I'll see if I can find the link.

Yep, this is correct! Also, in the Google voice app settings on your phone, under Sync and Notifications, make sure that "Text Messages" is the only thing checked. Do not check "Synchronize Inbox" or "Inbox Notifications." There are some online settings that have to be set as well. Once logged in online, go to Phones, edit the Google-enabled phone, and check "Receive text messages on this phone." Then, in Voicemail & Text, check "send a text (SMS) message to [your phone]."

thanks, well i figured out how to get it uninstalled by going online to google voice and unchecking an option hidden deep within the interface. not sure if i wanna retry installing and disabling the text option after all the hassle i went through

I understand! :) Once I got this figured out though it hasn't been a hassle any more. Just took a while is all!

I love sending text messages from all my computers or the transcribed voicemail messages which isn't perfect but doesn't need to be and works great. It's a minor minor thing when you look at what you're getting.

I also found out I can use my number from any android phone, even non sprint lines. So I could buy a TMobile phone and use my sprint number anyhow. Pretty powerful.
