Help! I've had a mystery notch at the top left hand corner...

This appeared a while ago, and I haven't been able to find out what or why about it. I only use this phone as a secondary unit, since I have my Galaxy Flip 3, so I have put the issue on the back burner, but I decided - I want to know!

Ideas, anyone?

Does anything happen if you tap it/swipe on it? Does it appear over all apps or just on the Home screen/notification shade? (looks too perfect a notch, but wondering if it's a damaged screen).

It's there in Safe Mode. Sigh.20221121_144558.jpg

Unfortunately, it looks like a faulty or damaged display. Make sure all of your important data is backed up or synced somewhere NOW in case the display suddenly fails completely.

Hate to pile on to the above comments, but if the defect doesn't show up in screenshots or while casting your screen and/or on Safe Mode, it's an almost-certain tell that it's a display panel issue :( Best case? Loose/faulty connector. Worst case? Display panel damaged and in need of replacement.

That looks like you enable notch in developer setting? Stimulate display cutout Screenshot_20221121_190506_Settings.jpg

I was able to replicate it, choose corner cutout
I couldn't replicate it on mine (Nacho Notch may be interfering in my case), but I think I'm agreeing with you or something similar. That cutout looks too perfect to be due to a damaged screen. Screen damage is usually irregular, has jagged edges where the pixels stopped working, lines running across, discoloration, etc. This appears to be a smooth "cut," for lack of a better term, with none of the typical signs of damage.

Yeah agree

Maybe it's my imagination, but from the photos that the OP posted, it looks like there might be a crack in the glass at the corner. @barskin, can you confirm that there's no damage whatsoever to the glass at the corner?

Weird!
I was able to replicate the waterfall, tall, punch hole and double cutouts, but not the corner one (I'm about to go to work, so had no time to take pictures of these with another phone).

But now that I think about it; when I chose corner cutout, the top space for the notification area grew bigger, that's about the only change I've noticed.
Tried it a few times with the same result.

Now that you mention it, the notification bar in the OP's photo does look larger than normal.
