Help Me Convince My Mother to Get a Nexus 10 Instead of an Ipad

IOS isn't easier than android. I don't know where that comes from. If my 16 month old knows how to unlock my gs3,open my music player, play a song, then go back to my apps to play temple run or bejeweled, android is far from hard.

But with that said, get her the ipad.

On tablets. IOS is currently superior due to the apps. Android tablet development is far far behind iOS.

Basically the nexus 10 is a better tablet, BUT the ipad is a better experience.

What good is a great tablet when you don't have many apps optimized for it? If the apps looked stretched out, it's not cool.

Tell her what I tell my family- I don't "do" Apple or MS-Windows. If they want my help, they will use Linux and Android. Otherwise they will need to seek out someone else or pay for support. Guess what my Mom chose to use? (Yep, Linux desktop and Android phone and tablet). Sometimes your support network is far more important than other factors.

She's 75. Get her what she wants. The iphone and ipad will work well together. The ipad is also more stable than the Nexus 10. It would also be to your benefit to learn iOS and Android. The settings are arranged a little differently, but it's not something you can't figure out relatively quickly.

I didn't know I didn't like apple until I learned iOS. It was only then that I understood how sterile the user experience is in comparison to Android.

Get her the ipad she wants and better yourself by learning iOS.

It isn't "harder" its different. I am not "making" her do anything, she is free to use whatever she likes. But I can't effectively help people with things I don't have/use.

Also seems to me you are hanging out in the wrong forum. Interesting that every post you make is pro-Apple and every post you see pro-Apple you thank & like. You are certainly entitled to your opinion and postings, like anyone else, but I have to wonder what you are doing here since you bought and use an iPad 4. Are you jealous? Are you trying to convert us? Are you paid by Apple?

I agree with some of the others. Get her the iPad. Older people have a harder time adjusting to and learning how to use new devices. Thus, I would go with the simpler interface of iOS. I believe she will be able to use it better than the N10 because of her previous exposure to iOS through the iPhone. Even if she sort of knows how to use iOS, it's not a completely new experience for her like it would be with Android. You could get her the N10, but I think she would be more happy with the iPad.

My mom is older (75) and uses an iPhone and she wants a tablet now so she wants an iPad because she already knows how to use an iPhone (kinda). I want her to try android because I don't want to have to always be learning every iOS update to help her with her Apple products. If she gets an iPad that will be another Apple product I have to learn about and I don't want to have to help her do that even if she did give me life and pay for my college education (*selfish*).

So what can I say to convince her she needs the Nexus 10, not an iPad?

I mean no offense by this but it sounds as though androidluvr2 needs to separate thier needs/desires from thier mother's.

Even with her at 75 I have no problem IF androidluvr2 tells their mother "If you get an iPad, I can not provide support/education/training for it, If you buy an Android I can". However to try and force their mother's choice based on their personal desire to play with a device strikes me as selfish.

I personally prefer Android over iOS, primarily because I dont care for walled gardens. My parents live far from me So I am NOT able to provide support in a timely manner. That combined with the number of their friends using iOS made iPad the right choice for them[They are Deaf so Facetime providing a visual form of communication before android makes a difference]. My wife would prefer a simpler interface for her phone, so in theroy iOS would be better, but she would also prioritize a physical keyboard over the interface so she has an Android. My son wants an iPhone [when he is old enough for a phone] because some of his Classmates already have them, this I will take a stronger stance on becuase I want him to learn to evaluate technology based on HIS needs not blindly follow his friends decisions. Oddly enough he was all set to buy a Nexus 7 with his own money until a Nintendo Rep told us the next Pokemon game would be 3DS exclusive so he decided to save for that instead. I share all this to demonstrate that blindly forcing my prefrences on thosu around me would be wrong because it doesn't take into account their needs.

androidluvr2, reevaluate things from the perspective of your motehr's needs and desires, then present her with the facts. then let her make the decision.

I wrote the original post partly tongue in cheek. I would like my mom to switch to android but I can't force her to, all I can do is show her the advantages, for instance, I can WiFi tether with my android phone and she can't with her iPhone.

yeah, I know but it is hard to justify having all of these toys. I was going to try to stick to 1 tablet because I think I will be getting a phablet and am not sure if I need a phablet and a tablet.

I love android myself but I don't see a whole lot of point in making a 75 year old learn a whole new architecture if she's happy with what she has.

For us it isn't hard but the launcher confuses people who are not as savvy.
IOS is just an app drawer this simplifies it for them.

For those that say the iPad is easier, seriously? Both have a home button and a browser on the home page.

I've had to teach people hire to use an iPad, iPhone, Android device just the same.
My kids and wife have both iOS and Android devices. They say each has their simplicity and difficultues.

I just believe people are regurgitating stereotypes when they say one device is easier than another without really thinking about the facts.(as in no one has stated why one it's easier than the other)
