Help me decide: Nexus 5 or Moto X?

Re: Help me decide - N5 or Moto X

I'm not going to down talk the S4. I didn't enjoy the phone, it was too big for me and I love on screen buttons too much.

That's not to say it's not a bad phone, it just wasn't for me.
Yeah, I get you. I have pretty big hands so I like the bigger phone/screen. I prefer hardware buttons because it makes things like booting into download and recovery mode easier.
The Moto X is still a beast, wish it had been out earlier and I would have convinced my sis to get it instead of the iPhone 5 back in June :p

The Moto X is a piece of crap. I have one right now. I will be getting the Nexus 5 immediately and scrapping this abortion of a flagship.

Your moto x is a piece of crap. I have had two, a 16GB model which I sold to get a 32GB model and both have been excellent. So I have 100% more experience with this device...see how that sounds?

I say get both!

FWIW, I was listening to the Vergecast today (episode 100). Joshua Topolsky uses a Moto X as his daily driver and had a Nexus 5 on the show.

Regarding the Nexus 5's camera, Topolsky said "Moto X definitely taking better photos in my opinion".

Please note: this was only for a few shots in their studio.

I have the Moto X and it's my favorite Android phone so far. I think you would really like it. I'm getting a Nexus 5 because I'm a Nexus fanboy and get the new nexus every year. It's been this way since the nexus One, my first smartphone of that type. Below is a link to the Android kitkat site, it will have some really nice features. It won't be quite as nice as the Moto X touchless control but pretty close. I don't think you can go wrong with either phone.

Android - 4.4 KitKat

You can't rule something a piece of crap because you rooted it and an update broke it. Rooting is a do at your own risk kind of thing and malfunctions are part of the game. We all know rooting and updates don't get along. You made your phone a piece of crap by rooting it and then expecting it to play well with updates . Duh...

I still wish Motorola would release international version of Moto X that they have talked about... Ah well, Nexus 5 then...

I've used the Moto x and loved it. It doesn't have the greatest specs but it has something that I can't quite put my finger on.
It has the X factor...(pun intended) Something about the Moto x just feels right.

Moto X is amazing. I have a customized 32GB model. But I still ordered the Nexus 5. I say both is the only way to go. :)

I agree the user experience is superb on the moto x. If it had google wallet (which it may very soon have) and wireless charging and a slightly larger screen, I would not have ordered the Nexus 5 (Got my tracking number, woohoo!) I have been a SIM swapper for a long time and I look forward to having both of these in my pocket for a while. After a few weeks with Nexus out, I think we will be able to make more comments for those of you who want one or the other.

My deciding factor was wireless changing.

Don't get the Nexus 5, it's a piece of garbage! At first it worked fairly well but the new updates are making it work terrible. I constantly get dropped service. By putting the data on 3G it's better service, but still poor. That still leaves me to switch to LTE if I want to look something up/use the internet. It has restarted itself several times now (updates?), sometimes just as I want to use it. The quick call app sometimes places the call, sometimes doesn't, calls may be placed and my screen is blank-the person on the other end is left talking to the ether, not me. Most recently, I tried to end the call that wasn't going through and it went to the twirling circle of death.

I have a day one Nexus 5 and it has none of those issues even after the update.

Love my nexus 5. My deciding factor was tri band support on sprint. Otherwise I would have probably gone with the moto x

I have been having no LTE connectivity issues. Just sayin. This is actually my 2nd one...I destroyed my first one on my cruise. No LTE issues with either of them.

I like the Moto X. Just like the nexus better...mostly because of the camera and true stock Android.

I have owned both and now prefer the Nexus 5.

If you...

-Don't mind large phones
-Prefer displays with accurate colors
-Can't stand stuttering and need to have the smoothest Android experience available
-Can't stand waiting to get updates to the latest version of Android
-Have a smartwatch (this renders Active Display on the Moto X mostly unnecessary)
-Don't use Google Now voice commands very often

Get the Nexus 5.

On the other hand, if you:

-Want a phone that is comfortable / easy to hold and use one handed
-Prefer displays that pop
-Don't mind a tiny bit of stuttering as long as performance is smooth a majority of the time
-Don't mind waiting a relatively short amount of time to get updates to the latest version of Android
-Don't have a smartwatch
-Use Google Now voice commands often
-Live in a rural area where cell signal is often weak / hard to come by

Get a Moto X.

Your point about Motorola's Driving Mode / Assist functionality is moot. There is an app called Agent in the Play Store that does everything the Assist app does. I have found battery life to be about the same on both phones, but everyone will have different experiences depending on how they use them.

edit: Aw man! I wrote this whole post because a troll revived a super old thread?!?! Facepalm.

The thread is over 4 months old. I think the OP probably already made his decision awhile ago.
