Help needed after installing CM7
I downloaded the rom from rom manager and installed. Everything worked great and I set up all my screens and re downloaded all my apps. I went to reboot the phone and now it is stuck on the cyanogenMod screen with arrow going around in a circle. It will not fully boot. What do I need to get this phone to fully boot up.

(NOTE: sometimes it takes a really long time to boot a rom the first or second time, so you should let the cm7 boot up screen go on for like... 10 minutes before you do anything else, bc it might just be working and not frozen), but this is what i would do to fix if it won't load:

Did you make a nandroid back up before you flashed cm7 thru rom manager?

If you did, pull the battery out. Wait a minute. Put the battery back in.

Boot the phone in bootloader (power button + volume down key at the same time). Select Recovery and press Power.

Go to Back up and Restore>Restore>Select your nandroid. Let it do it's thing. (btw when you are in recovery you can navigate with trackball, and pressing trackball will select things. Pressing power goes back. Volume keys move you up and down).

Next, to flash cm7 again, boot back into recovery, and Wipe Data, Wipe Cache Partition, and Advanced>Wipe Dalvik Cache. Now, back out to 1st recovery screen, and select Install Zip from sd card>Choose zip from sd card>Find the cm7 file (it will be in rom manager folder>downloads or something since you downloaded it thru rm). Flash the cm7 zip, and then reboot system.

You should be good, and the problem was likely either that you didn't wipe everything the way you should, or just some kind of bug bc you flashed in rom manager and not by directly booting into recovery mode.

Did you ever make a nandroid back up? When you downloaded rom manager from the market did you flash a version of recovery?

Wait when you boot into the bootloader with power and vol down, you move down to recovery with vol keys, and then press power, and that restarts teh phone in recovery mode (black screen with orange writing). Can you get there?

If you can get to recovery mode, you dont really have to restore your nandroid, you can just do a full data wipe, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache, and then install zip from sd > choose zip from sd, and flash the cm7 zip in your rom manager folder.

But make sure you always make nandroids! and it's a good habit to do your flashing/wiping in recovery mode rather than from within the rom manager app.

I did make a backup. When I hit recovery it just takes me back to the bootloader screen only instead of saying unlit it says fastboot with theoptions I listed in my above post. That's the problem, I can't get to the screen to get my backup. When I first go into hboot it says something about no image but it disappears very quick.

Um, pull the battery again, and boot to the bootloader, and highlite recovery, and press power. If that doesnt take you to recovery mode (restarts, black screen with orange letters), you might need to flash recovery in fastboot.

Do you remember what version of recovery you had flashed? 3.0.0.8?

That's my problem it won't go into recovery. I think the rcovery was 3.0.0.2 buti am not sure. How do I flash recovery in fastboot

Go here: Inc. Recoveries | doug piston
and download recovery 3.0.0.8
next:

Rename it to PB31IMG.zip

Place it on the root of your SD Card

Boot into HBOOT by holding down Down Volume key and the power button

HBOOT should find the file and prompt you to flash it.

Reboot and you should then be able to reboot into recovery.

Double check that your SD Card is FAT32.

Good Luck!

UPDATE: You should remove the PB31IMG.zip from the root of the SD card after flashing the recovery so HBOOT does not get confused in the future.

After that, assuming you can get to recovery mode, either restore the back up you made, or wipe everything and flash cm7 zip.

Ok thanks for all your help. I will not be able to do that until tomorrow because I am working right now. Thanks again

Sure, hope it works out GL

btw if you plan to restore your backup, and the backup was made with cwm 2.5.x you should download that version of recovery, instead of 3.0.0.8 or a different newer version. You can always flash a newer version of recovery while in the rom manager app after you restore.

One more question. When I plug the phone into the computer will it open up the internal and sd card drives. Since it will not boot up should I boot into hboot then plug it in or plug it in with the phone turned off.

Probably easier to take out the SD card and put it into a PC. That will also give you a chance to make sure it's FAT32 formated. Then you can just download the file, rename it tp PB31IMG.zip and copy it to the root of the SD card.

Thank you. I know it is formatted to fat 32. If you guys are around tomorrow morning I might need your help.

Hey guys. I tried to put several pb31img.zip files onto the root of my sd card (seperately of course ) but I still get this saying when going into hboot.

Loading pb31img.zip. No image or wrong image.
I have tried the following files.

1)cwm2.5.1.2
2)cwm3.0.0.5
3)cwm3.0.0.8

None of these are working. I do not recall the exact one that was used when I did my back up but I thought it was something like 3.0.2.0 or 3.0.0.2. Anyway I am lost as to what to try next. Anyone have any suggestions. I wouldn't even mind if I got the phone unrooted I just want it to work.

The usual problems are the file name and the SD format. I know's it sounds remedial but double check that the file is PB31IMG.zip and not .zip.zip (common problem) Also I would copy everything off you SD card and reformat as FAT32 just to be sure. FAT16 will not work.

Check the card and it is fat32. When I put the file in the root of sd card I had to rename it so I know it was just PB31IMG.zip. Are there any other files I can try.

Same result. No luck. Am I out of options or do I just need to find the proper PB31IMG.zip file.
