Help - Persistent Location search and high battery use from play services

I have a new Droid Turbo with 4.4.4, and I've been seeing the "Searching Location" notification pop up way more than it did on my of Moto X (see my first pic). When I click the notification it shows that Google play services is using high battery for location services. Can anyone help me determine why GPS (Google play services, not global positioning system) is spending so much time looking for me? I tried to mirror my settings on my old Moto X, but obviously I've missed something.

Could be in your google settings, or one or more apps with permission to follow you. Are you using Google Now? If not, location reporting and location history can be turned off and save battery power. Consider changing the mode from high accuracy to battery saving. It'll use just WiFi and cell towers and keep the GPS off. The only time I ever need to turn it back to high accuracy is when I want real time turn by turn navigation.

I am using Google now, but then I was on my Moto X too. And I think that Google now is under the "Google Search" category.

I guess the question is what location services are controlled by Google play services? With that answer I can start figuring out what apps are asking for my location constantly.
