Help please - Before I smash this phone with a hammer - Calendar wont work !

All I want to do is put an event in my calendar so it reminds me when the event is !!

It wont let me - keeps saying "Before you can add an event, you must add at least one Calendar account to the device"

I dont want any fancy syching lnking or whatever - I just want a personal calendar that works

How do I get it to work ? Please before I throw this phone against the wall to cheer myself up !!!

You already have google calendar with your google account so you might as well use it and let it do it's thing. No need to over complicate things.

Do yourself a favor and look up using a google calendar on android phone on you tube.

No I dont !! I dont use google the only reason I have a username with them is once I needed to watch a youtube video and had to create an account with youtube.

Anyway the correct answer is - In order to use the calendar first you have to create a calendar in your google account on the internet and through the options you can sync it to whatever device you have !

Sign in with your google account on your phone. You might think you dont want your calendar to be linked to your account or anything and just want to use the calendar. But in the long run it really is a good feature.

You can turn the sync off the calendar so it resides only in your phone, but the first step is creating a Google calendar.

Treknologist - thanks I've read those and understand how it works - I'm very tech savy - but not google savy !

Thanks for the replies guys - I dont use my google account normally- But I just logged into my google account that I never use and created a calendar and I cant get the acount to synch with the phone and it wwont let me use the calendar - I,ve tried 30 times to add my account to the calendar but it wont do it. I try syching my google account on the phone in the settings and it keeps saying there's an error and try again !

You seem really angry. Setting up a Google calendar and letting it sync wont hurt or cost you money, and in less time than you have spent looking for other ways (which I don't think exist), you could have it done. I'm guessing the whole ordeal would require less than 5 minutes. If you're adamantly apposed to using Google, which all Android phones are based on/tied to, you could always switch to another device, like an iphone or a windows phone.

Assuming you are signed into (on your phone) the Google account that you are referring to, if you go to settings>google>tap your gmail address at the top, it should show Calendar (near the top) with a box out to the side. Is that boxed checked?

I dont have a gmail address -do I have to have one ? I use yahoo for my mail and ther is no mention of a calendar !

How did you set up your Google Calendar? Didn't you use a Gmail address for it?

No - I logged into google on my PC and just added a callendar and put an event on it - google has my yahoo account assigned to it.
On the phone under my google account there is no mention of a calendar in settings and I cant add my google account to the calendar - it has no accounts !

Open the Calendar app, then hit the three dots on the top right of the screen. Select Settings, and what do you see? If your Gmail address is there, and click it and check that all the settings are right. If it isn't, select Add Account and follow the instructions for adding a new account.

I've done that now 35 times already - it does not add my account and there are no accounts in the list - as I said above.

Ok, not sure if what I am going to say is different from what you have done, but let's try. Open calendar app, tap the 3 dots got to setting, on the left it should say general settings.. below that an email account, click the email account and ensure there is a calendar listed on the right, mame sure a check box is in the box beside the email account calendar.
If tere is no email account listed under general settings, get out of calendar, go to settings on your phone, accounts, add account, add the gmail account that you use for youtube ( don't worry you don't have to sync it). Once the gmail account is added go back to calendar and follow the steps above. And take a breath, we can figure this out.
