Help, Problem with Android Studio 2.3.1, on windows 7

Hi all,
Im only new to building Android Apps, or trying i should say.
I have installed Android Studio and i keep getting errors when it loads see below.

Error 1. Gradle project sync failed.
Error 2. This version of %1 is not compatible with the version of Windows your running.

I am running windows 7 x86, and i do believe the version of Android Studio is for windows x86.

When i load a project i can not see anything in the Design Window.
does anyone know why this is happening, or have a solution to the problem.
