decided to try and change the rom on my lg optimus v for virgin mobile. I dl'd gapps-gb-20110325-signed.zip (from [ROM][WIP][ALPHA] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7+ (Gingerbread) - xda-developers )to my pc, and turned on usb mass storage. i went to f:/download/root and put the file in there. Then opened it in root manager clicked install from root sd card, and installed the rom.

now to the probelm

when it turned back on it looks nothing like the rom, just my default rom but without any apps but the super basic apps for the phone (no junkware either) and superuser. no marketplace or rom manager.

i tired to do a factory reset. and im now stuck in clockwork recovery mod. I tried to go to backup/recovery and install the backup i made before i tried to flash my os, let it do its thing, then after it installed, it went right back to clockwork. :[

i tried going to format data, then format systems, mounted my sd card. went to choose zip from sd card, picked the zip i had.. let it install. removed my sd card, rebooted. still in clockwork.

im stuck at this point...

thanks for ur reply, im trying to dl the flash_image and xionia_cwma_12518.6.img but flash_image is like a dead link or something. it just goes to a blank page.

there is a thread of how to easily flash AOSPcm7. becuase the Rom Manager app is broken for the V and causes this exact problem...

once you get back into a stock rom. try this method. it WILL work.

http://forum.androidcentral.com/opt...-install-aospcmod7-least-trouble-updated.html

as for your rebooting problem. make sure you erase dalvik cache, then the regular cache, THEN wipe all/factory reset inside clockworkmod, then install your backup.

actually the details are in the link, read it. could help. i even have the downloads in it of the rom.

becuase you only downloaded the gapps. not the actual ROM. becuase its not listed in the aosp thread. i have it uploaded

after i wiped dalvik cashe, then regular, then wiped factory defaults, then went to install from sd card went to download/root and picked flash_image.zip (the other one isnt displaying) it says installing finding update package, opening update package, installing update, installation aborted.

Go to the link I posted and use the Xionia image I posted in zip flashable form. That is all you need. Flash it using your current recovery. Once you install it, and type in those adb commands, your bootloop issues should go away. Once that happens, you can follow whatever guide you want to install whatever rom you want.

Edit: mmarz beat me to it with a much easier method while I was posting this. I'll leave this here for those who are intersted or have trouble with flashing for whatever reason.

You don't install flash_image in recovery that way.

flash_image is normally installed via adb or the terminal. It is the file which will allow you to flash various recoveries, and other special items. You need to move it to /system/bin (either use a root file manager, adb, or terminal).

adb:
adb remount system
adb push c:/PATH_TO_RECOVERY_DIRECTORY/NAME_OF_RECOVERY.img /system/bin/NAME_OF_RECOVERY.img
adb shell
chmod 755 /system/bin/NAME_OF_RECOVERY.img

terminal: (you must have the recovery image file on your sdcard already)
su
mv /sdcard/NAME_OF_RECOVERY.img /system/bin/NAME_OF_RECOVERY.img
chmod 755 /system/bin/NAME_OF_RECOVERY.img

Once it's moved there, you need to chmod it via adb or terminal to 755. Then you can use adb or terminal to input the command to flash xionia recovery (or whichever recovery you choose).

adb:
adb remount system (may not be necessary, but I always do this when moving/chaning files via adb)
adb shell (you should see a # sign, if you see a $ sign, you are not rooted properly)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/NAME_OF_YOUR_RECOVERY.img

terminal:
su (shoud change your $ sign to a # sign, if not, you are not properly rooted)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/NAME_OF_YOUR_RECOVERY.img

Does it still boot into the recovery when you reboot? If it doesn't then you don't need to run those commands. You can just install the rom that you want.

If you still have the boot loop issue, look at the rooting guide to find adb. It is part of the android SDK. You run it from your desktop/laptop to communicate with your phone via usb. You'll need to install the drivers from the rooting guide as well.

no i dont boot in recovery any more, but i dont boot into a desktop or ne thing either, just stays at the virgin mobile screen

Probably because there is no rom currently present to boot to.

Pull the battery than wait a moment.
Than put the battery back in and hold down: (hopefully this will work, otherwise someone correct me)
power+home+volume down (optimus s recovery instructions, again someone correct if this is wrong).
until you see the LG logo and let off of all the keys, should boot to recovery.

Once there you can reflash your rom or restore from sd card

even after pulling the battery, holding vol down power and home it flashes LG then android system recovery, then goes right to virginmobile screen.

You need to release the buttons as soon as you see the logo show up.

thats what i did ( a few times to make sure) the lg logo dissapears for a sec, and it boots into a black screen with orange letters android system recovery, formatting data... formatting cashe... factory reset... rebooting!

also will i need a stock rom to install in my root again?

From your OP.. " f:/download/root and put the file in there. Then opened it in root manager clicked install from root sd card"

I think you need to put the Rom zip in the 'root" of the card... meaning just f:/ ... and not the root folder.

No you don't need to root again.

You are booting into the recovery, which is what you want to do, but it sounds like you installed the wrong recovery. It should look like this:
xionia_recovery.png

It sounds like you might have installed the stock recovery which should make things 10 times harder for you now. The good news is that the boot loop issue is solved. The bad news is that you can't easily reinstall any rom.

Your best bet will be to install this: http://forum.androidcentral.com/opt...astboot-style-fastest-easiest-way-around.html

I know it says it is for rooting but in actuality it installs the stock rom in a rooted state. Follow his guide.

Your other option is to figure out how adb works and try to quickly install the correct recovery while the phone is stuck at the VM logo.

is f:/downloads/root not the root folder?

If f: is your micro sd card, then "f:/" is the root of your micro sd card. When your phone is booted up "/" is the root of your phone and "/sdcard/" is the root of your micro sd card.

so then im not suposed to put it in downloads/root then? thats what ur saying right?
