Try SuperOneclick

• extract it
• put your phone in debugging mode
• open superoneclick
• connect your device
• hit root

When you are done get a file manager from the market like root explorer or es explorer and make a copy of your EFS folder and put it on your sd card or computer
then you are done

I did this and the rooting failed. Can you offer any further info.
