I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4 mini because I really don't like how big the Samsung's are getting and I don't want to go the iPhone route. I'm having trouble connecting my T-Mobile data plan to it. The T-Mobile rep I spoke to told me that I wouldn't be able to access the 4G/LTE because the phone does not support the AWS 1700/2100 band. She told me it will only run at 2G max. Is this true? I need to know before I return the phone and only have a couple of days to do that.

My understanding is that it supports 3G on AT&T, though. Is that true? (But not 4G). I'm also sad about it not supporting 4G in the US, because it is a much nicer form factor (to my tastes) than the new giant flagship phones. I'm debating whether it's worth it to get the larger phone to get 4G. Currently, my Sprint phone theoretically supports 4G, but there's rarely a 4G signal, and 4G is a power-hog, so I leave that radio off. So I suppose I wouldn't miss it. But would I enjoy it enough to be worth the larger phone?

If the mini doesn't even do 3G, then I guess I need to get something else.

But the bands it supports aren't used in North America. At least, not by AT&T or T-Mobile. It has LTE in England, and maybe in Europe or Asia, but not in America.
