Here's why no ICS is ridiculous

There seems to be some sort of push for this...with webOS going open source, the new Boot to Gecko OS from Mozilla...(is Meego this way too?). Not sure how it would all work with carriers and their very restrictive policies, though.

There has to be a way for the carrier to have specific radio software that the OS builds around and Sprint can update it when you complain the phone has bad service and then any OS you upload works with it...

Well, there's always this:

Straight from Google's own Google Apps Device Policy app on the Android Market and uploaded by Google themselves.

It's not an "official statement" like everyone's clamoring for (which won't happen until it's actually out, of course) but I guess it's something? It's probably just a mock-up, anyway. But if not, it does show that they've at least been working on it since October of last year.

For me, seeing something like that is enough. But I'm pretty patient when it comes to updates. Plus, my phone is working great now, so I'm content.

Thanks for the screen cap though. I appreciate it.

No problem! :)

Here's another statement straight from Jean-Baptiste Queru who works on AOSP at Google.

This 100% confirms that Android 4.0.4 is NOT finished and the one that everyone's using on their GNex and NS4G is incomplete which makes sense considering it still has Gingerbread loading circles and proximity issues (for the NS4G at least).

it will come when its ready. just no other phone than a nexus should get it before we do..

"There's only so much a phone with a single-core processor and 512MB of RAM can do now a days?

Have you seen what a windows phone 7 can do with those specs?

I have but this isn't the Windows Phone 7 thread (or website for it, actually) so that's pretty much irrelevant to what I said.

I don't have a nexus s but I can understand the frustration with not having ICS on the nexus yet. I think people should look at this and ease up on the criticism of other manufacturers skins cause delays in updates. News flash!!! If goggle can't get heir update to work right, why do we expect a higher standard from them

The OEM modding of Android isn't just skins. It's pretty much taking Android and stripping out the "Google" and replacing it with "Samsung" "HTC" Motorola" "LG" crap. Sometimes right down to the kernel itself.

This causes problems such as stuttering in dual core phones such as the EVO 3D and SGS II. Yes, Android stutters on Nexus devices, but no where near as much on OEM phones most of the time. There have been times the Nexus S has been faster with GB vs the EVO 3D with the same OS thanks to OEM screw ups.

Nexus devices are the iPhone of the Android world in terms of Google controls the Nexus phones (GSM only, not CDMA (Verizon/Sprint) like Apple controls the iPhone. Everyone else is just throwing their own spin on it, sometimes good and sometimes bad.

I can back that up. I just switched from the Evo 3D to the Nexus S. I am running Dooderbut ICS and this phone is way smoother and faster than my Evo. That's just pathetic, Nexus for me from now on.

Besides the Galaxy S II getting ICS on the fifteenth we now have the HTC Vivid set to get ICS "in the comming weeks" http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-vivid-get-ics-coming-weeks-leak-available-now-brave

Gotta love this "pure Google" experience that the Nexus S 4G is offering me. Just take a look how Google is falsely advertising this phone.

Nexus S 4G from Google – Android Device Gallery

And I quote: "With this device, users will be the first to receive software upgrades and new Google mobile apps as soon as they become available."

Even for those that want to argue (^getting really close to losing that^) that ICS is not on another device yet. What about the "apps as soon as they become available" part. Pretty sure I can't use Chrome (a Google app) on my NS4G since I don't have ICS.

Frankly I think the Nexus program is a joke. When the OEM's are set to update your OS before you can, there is a major problem. Not to mention that Google's silence on this issue is just sickening.

It's obvious that ICS for the Nexus S 4G is not available right now as 4.0.4 isn't even complete. So, Chrome is not available to you either. You weren't lied to in any way.

If you seriously think that HTC and Samsung will not screw up the ICS update in and that it'll be stock ICS like the Galaxy Nexus has, I think you need to go back and look at their track record. OEM versions of Android won't magically change in any way with ICS. They'll look the same, behave the same, and overall, be the same because it would be pretty jarring for non-power users who have those phones to suddenly see the ICS GUI when they're so used to Sense/TouchWiz/Blur/whatever LG has.

You can either root your phone and get ICS, then go back to stock for the OTA if you want, or, you can enjoy it for the OS you have now. Never buy a phone just because of future updates. Always be sure you're satisfied with the OS your phone ships with because you never know how long you'll have to use it.
