I can't speak to whether gbhil watches this thread religiously or not, but I think it would be fair to say that he keeps tabs on it. And I'm sure when he's ready and the ROM is ready he'll be more than happy to release it for everybody. But I personally don't feel like its anyone else's place to distribute gb's work. So the best thing would probably be to just to be patient...

I'm here lol. The issue is twofold.
1 - I'm not up to speed with ANY changes that may have been made to this since the 6th. I'm putting in 16+ hours a day until I can find an office manager (Mine moved back to Berlin) and don't have time to flash/re-flash my phone, and need bluetooth.

2 - There's an issue with proprietary Google code. Google doesn't seem to care if you release a remake of the current version for your phone (think MoDaCo or Fresh ROM), but they don't like it when you build from source and include their Google apps on top of Android. This is what happened to Cyanogen. I have already been through the nasty back and forth with RIM when I posted a changed version of some Plazmic files, and don't feel like doing it again with Google.

In short, I could post the AOSP part of the ROM, but I'm not sure if what I have is up to date. This wouldn't have Gmail, Market, Sync, Maps, or any Google apps in it.

Posting the closed Google apps here are out of the question. Personally, I feel that if you bought an HTC Hero, you HAVE license to use Goggles apps as part of the "Google Experience", and it looks like Google agrees with that. But I do not have authority to re-distribute their applications though, and neither does Android Central.

The versions on our Stock Hero will not work. There's two ways to get them. Run the ION ROM from HTC in the simulator and deodex them one by one, or find a Magic/Dream 1.6 ROM and swipe them from it. Just push these files to the ROM and reboot. You'll then be faced with the setup wizard, and have Google apps at your disposal.

I hope this didn't cause more confusion than it clarified, and for now, you'll have to look elsewhere for support.

busybox is in the rom. it just needs 'installed'

I have a free PC here that I am going to use to build a custom busybox for this ROM today, but will be unable to test. I'll whip out an update zip for any that want to try testing it later.

Metamorph and tether can be installed like a regular app.

Nice rom, made a few changes (but the regular Droid Sans font back in /system/fonts). Going to continue to make some modifications.

One question, how can I get to the EPST menu? ##3282# does nothing for me.

Not even close to getting that far yet. Need to have all telephony functions straightened out first IMO.

The EPST.apk from a stock Hero ROM would be the first thing to try. If it works, great. If not try deodexing it and creating a class file with smali.

I pushed the googlebits for 1.6 package from XDA. Changing icons is easy though, just unpack the apk, replace the png, repack, push.

There is some apps that are paid that are NOT classified as "protected". And with that said there are some free apps that ARE classified as "protected". So if you can please check for me if you are able to see the protected apps. Example would be PicSay PRO version and Handcent SMS...

My hero will not be able to establish an open data connection after going to airplane mode and back out. It looks as if I am authenticated for EVDO, but I dont get any data to the phone. Going to any apps will display an error message stating there is no network connection eventhough I have an Ev icon up top (not the EVDO data traffic icon)

Yes, I can confirm that is a bug, and also when turning Wifi on and off, same story. You need to reboot your phone to bring the data back.
(Not a rant in any way.. I am just stating the fact so that is known. Thanks for your amazing work!!!)

I pulled them from the HTC Ion ROM and and deodex'd them. I also changed some icons to match the 2.1 launcher look .

Lot's of people are. I'm not, so I'm unsure where to tell you to look. Read back through the thread, I offered some advice for users not being able to send a few pages back.

Someone who can run the ROM needs to unyaff a Hero stock ROM and look at the init scripts. Then unyaff this one and work out a script to get the service started in the ROM. Warning - you will be dealing with boot loops and lots of trial and error.

LOL. That info is stored in either a jar or a binary xml. I'm sure you can easily hex edit it out once it's found. Noj here on the forums is the lock screen guru, he may know where to look.

Interesting tidbit about paid/protected apps-
If you download and install any protected app from the market (i always use barcode scanner), then flash another ROM this will fix issues with apps not showing for users who have tried 2.x ROMS. I might suggest a wipe, flash this ROM, install barcode scanner, wipe, flash a stock ROM, install barcode scanner again, then wipe and flash this ROM. Longshot, but might work.

See above. FWIW, I have had zero issues with protected free apps when I ran this one. I did have issues with twidroid pro and subfs though.

New one on me. Next time it happens try grabbing the logfiles and see if any errors were shat out. I'd be happy to look and see if there's anything inside them that could help.
