[HERO ROM] Sneak Peek Working Donut on CDMA Hero

Where can I download this ROM? Looks great guys!!! Do I need to push Google Bits for this ROM? Can you send SMS with this ROM?

Someone who can run the ROM needs to unyaff a Hero stock ROM and look at the init scripts. Then unyaff this one and work out a script to get the service started in the ROM. Warning - you will be dealing with boot loops and lots of trial and error.

Whoa!! You just blew my mind....I dont even know what that means. LOL

@gbhil

thank you for your quick reply. I will upload a log file when I get a chance. Would you mind explaining the best way to create a log file? should I be making use of logcat, or is there already a file thats dumped in the hero somewhere?

Also, I have another question. Does aGPS work for anyone? I noticed Maps will not work unless I have a GPS lock.

Google Nav worked for me...I went back to Gumbo cause I need BT.

I'm sorry I shouldnt have said aGPS. CDMA phones use A-FLT which is basically the cell tower triangulation method of locating your current position. I was wondering if anyone had that working in this build.

This is used in google maps when you are inside without any line of sight to the GPS satellites.

When you notice it happening again -
shell into the device
logcat -d -b radio > issue.txt
logcat -d -b EVDO > issue2.txt
logcat -d -b 3G > issue3.txt
logcat -d -b 3g > issue4.txt
logcat -d > logcat_issue.txt

Zip the files it generates up and post them somewhere for us to look at. Thanks.

Busybox, fixed su and SuperUser whitelist -

4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download FIXES-signed.zip

NEEDS TESTED!

If someone could -
Nandroid backup
wipe data
Flash original ROM
shell in and:
Code:
delete /system/xbin/busybox
delete /system/bin/su
reboot to recovery and flash this over original ROM without wiping (no need to push google bits, this is just a test).

IF zip flashes without any errors:
shell in and try
Code:
abd remount
cp /system/app/AlarmClock.apk /data/local/AlarmClock.apk
rm -r /system/app/AlarmClock.apk
mv /data/local/AlarmClock.apk /system/app/AlarmClock.apk

then try the alarm clock and report results. :)

IF FLASHING GIVES ERRORS -
Please report the exact error you're given in recovery.

Thanks to whomever volunteers for guinea pig duty.

@gbhil

Here is the log file. Please note that the following commands did not work:

logcat -d -b EVDO > issue2.txt
logcat -d -b 3G > issue3.txt
logcat -d -b 3g > issue4.txt

I got an error saying no such item existed.

Basically, I went into airplane mode, out of airplane mode, and attempted some data connections (maps and browser)

logcat_issues.zip

I can reproduce this behavior at anytime =(

I'll have a look.
It was a longshot with some of those commands lol. If they had worked it would be much less to look through, but what you uploaded should have all the info I was hoping to get with the comands that did not work.

Want to test this ROM out yet I can't send SMS, like others have reported. Has anyone found a fix for this or why it happens to some?

Nope. No one knows or has figured out why this is happening. I assure you if there is a fix it will be posted here. I also have this problem, and it sucks. I would be using this everyday if I could.

Uhh, why don't you do a logcat and then post the file so those of us it doesn't work for can use it and compare..because while I'm happy it worked for you that is completely independent of the fact it doesn't work for me and many others. Thanks!

Sprint hero

Noticed that the 1.6 on xda is dead and you guys are putting forth a great effort on this rom. I would like to become a tester to help out and get this thing going can someone message me link ill post logcats whatever is needed!

Keep up the hard work!

To be fair -
The original 1.6 AOSP at xda is the work of one guy, quietcblongs, who by all accounts is an Android genius. This ROM would not exist without his work, and it's very likely that the issues with sms/and data disconnect will depend on him. I can hack the living daylights out of Linux, because I've been working with it since 1993. Android is new territory to me. When I decided to build 1.6 and try to make it run on CDMA Hero's, his thread was the only link available. If he hadn't shared the how and why of his changes, this ROM would still be on my laptop and only running on an unactivated Ion.

In short, any trained monkey can grab the sources from git and make 1.6. Making it work on the Sprint Hero is ALL because of him.

A couple of pages back is a link to the ROM and instructions how to make it usable on your device. Be warned, it's buggy. It has some eyecandy, as it was my testbed for ROM cooking. Barring some bolt of lightning style inspiration, quietcblongs will be the one who fixes the data issues on 1.6. Once he does all the hard work, they can easily be incorporated into this ROM.

I keep going back to this ROM because it works great, but I keep going back to Gumbo as well because I need BT. LOL Its a great ROM though...

With the release of the CDMA Hero Kernel today, can we expect this rom to take off now? Or does it not have anything to do with this?? Sorry don't know much about all the programming stuff...

The kernel should show what kind of hacks they had to use to get 1.5 working on CDMA networks as well as any hardware drivers built into the kernel. As long as they really are built-in, and the guys over at XDA believe them to be, someone smarter than I am should be able to use those along with their own customizations to get everything working.

anyone with the SMS sent issue... i noticed that i WOULDNT be able to send when i have a "1" prepending my number.

so if i texted some one @ 1 555 555 5555, it woudnt work, but 555 555 5555 would work fine. can anyone else test and confirm?

I also noticed i couldnt send if the text message was over 140 chars (more than 1 msg being sent)
