Hero Sms bug

so as most people know the sprint htc hero has a battery bug with the sms.

what is the best sms to use then???

i have seen chompsms and hand but they look like the iphone sms which i dont like. i really wish i could use the stock sms but not at the cost of my battery life. thanks.

Actually, the battery bug was fixed through a patch, so the normal SMS app should be working fine now. Go to Settings -->About Phone --> Status, and scroll all the way down. What does the Awake Time come up as? It should be something like 12-20%.

I don't think it has been fixed. Unless the update isn't going to new phones. I've tried to do an update once I got my phone and says there isn't anything available. I just got my Hero new in box last week.

So I did do the work around and tried the two most popular SMS clients. Handcent and Chomp. I started with Handcent, decided to try Chomp and decided that Handcent is better. I like the fact that their ad's don't get in the way of the function of the app and the screen pop up on new texts. Also, the screen tilt seems to work better in Handcent - IMO.

Handcent doesn't HAVE to look like the iPhone style SMS. There are many different options. Frankly I can't stand iPhone looking stuff either. lol

The sms dialer bug was fixed with a patch before christmas.

When your phone is plugged in it can not sleep and will show 100%

Is there any way for you to verify that you have the patch? As I mentioned earlier I activate my phone two weeks ago and first thing I did was made sure that I had the latest greatest software update that was available OTA. It was, and I still experienced the bug. That was one of the reasons I went ahead and put on a custom ROM (thanks to your help as earlier posted).

(Stock) If your software version is lower than 1.56.651.2 you do not have the update.
(Custom ROM) - all ROM's except MCR v1 and the first Fresh ROM have the patch applied.

Lots of things can lock the phone awake. Blame it on the buggy addition of CDMA to 1.5. I'd recommend loading spare parts from the market (if it's not already on your ROM) and digging through it to see what exactly is keeping the processor awake.

Wave secure and You Mail are both known to do this, probably other apps as well.
