"Hi Museum" - A bit of an odd question

So I bought the Nexus 7, my first Android device, at Walmart last week and it had the screen separation issue and also a flicker in the screen. I decided to return it and order it online directly through Google.

Well it arrived to day and so far everything seems fine in respect to hardware. When it asked me to log in to my Google account however, it said "Hi Museum" (as if that was my name) and my gmail address was already there, I just needed to put in my password.

I understand that it was synced to my account like the Kindles are when they ship but where the heck did "Museum" come from?

Are these refurbs being sold as new ones? Just wondering :)

I received a new 16GB from the play store the other day and when I logged in it had my email and said HI E.T.. lol I found it pretty amusing

Is it still calling you Museum?

It doesn't really call me anything haha.

I wonder if Museum or ET are just jokes built in for new users but they shouldn't be selling refurbs as new products. Aren't their laws on that? I'm all for recycling the good parts but at least sell it at a discount.

You were shipped a unit that someone else had used that wasn't completely wiped. It might be a factory inspection unit, a return or ? That is a bummer they are already to the point they are not sending out NIB units for RMAs.

I looked into it and US law states refurbished units cannot be sold as new. Are we all sure that this just isn't a Google thing? Would would call themselves ET or Museum on their Google account? My email address was preinstalled as well. I wonder if this is something that Google pushes to the units based on seriel numbers like Amazon.
