I read on some forums that JB was supposed to fix the blurry contact image issue from ICS. However, it is not fixed on my phone. Anyone have any ideas how to correct it?

They do allow higher res photos if you set a higher res photo as the contact image. If your contacts use an image that is supplied from syncing with facebook(or other social media sites, I can't say how good those images are because my contacts use facebook profile pics) then it is not going to be a high resolution picture. If you set a picture from your phone as a contact's image it will be higher resolution.

I am aware of that, but adding a pic for each contact removes the convenience of the sync.

I looked into it more, and turns out that while a fix for it was promised in JB, it was not delivered, at least in execution. Apparently the issue has roots in Gmail more than Android, with Gmail taking the synced higher quality pics and rendering them to low quality and then sending the low quality image back to contacts.

I was under the impression that the contact photos would only be high res if that contact set a photo in Google+. Otherwise, the photos will be whatever resolution they are from wherever they got pulled.
