hiding pics from other apps from gallery

Has anyone found a reliable way to ensure that pics saved from facebook or twitter / plume or ....... dont appear in the gallery alongside pics from the camera. I have tried the .nomedia option but this seems unreliable - sometimes it works, sometimes doesnt and pics saved in a folder after .nomedia has been added always seem to be shown in gallery.

Has anyone found a good solution to stopping all pics appearing bar camera pics
