Hisense Sero 7 Pro - Unboxing pictures (no video)

Small nitpick. Does anybody know of a way to turn off the screen shot button? I keep ending up with a ton of fumble fingered images from accidentally triggering the thing. In most ways though, I actually like this better than my Nexus 7. Build quality is surprisingly good, compatibility seems excellent, speed is great, etc. I love having some of the things that Google left out of the Nexus 7 (micro-SD, HDMI, wifi N, etc.) And a spare slip-case that I had works just fine to protect the new guy.

I have a TabletUI mod in my thread.

bought mine earlier rotate feature broken. taking it back to wally world. But other then that not a complaint... fast...decent screen.....good connections

I saw a video on YouTube of some kind of error while drawing on the screen. He cleaned the screen with a damp cloth and rebooted. That corrected the problem.

I've been accidentally pressing the button about 20 times per charge. Lots of interesting pictures there. I just delete them once a day.

That HDMI was the deal sealer for me. I do a lot of demos, and like being able to mirror things to the TV or Projector. Everything that I found with HDMI output or Miracast compatibility, was either poorly rated or priced near $300. This Hisense is just what I needed. The value here is spectacular. Even with the 32GB Class 10 SD card, I'm still less than the Nexus 7, and I've got the ability to demo to a group. I'm in love.

In post #58 of this thread, Reverendkjrt's video referenced an OTG cable. Does anybody have a recommendation on a Sero Pro 7 compatible OTG cable?

I got a 5 pack of OTG cables from Amazon for about $7 (with Prime). I figured if I got a bad one, I'd have others to try as well. It worked with a combo of it and the Nexus Media Importer app. Having had over 15 tablets in my lifetime, I'm really impressed with the Sero 7. Thru the Quadrant speed test, the Sero scored 1000 better than the Nook HD+ and the screen is just as good. I do see where people are saying the MicroSD lid doesn't close all the way, but it's really a minor flaw that can be overlooked thanks to the price. As others have stated, don't believe Walmart's website as it showed there was none around me and my local store had 5 in stock when I asked them.

I have checked in the store a couple of times and still none there. Should I call??
Edited to add, I called around (scary to realize there are 10 WalMarts within 11 miles of my house...) and found a couple that say they have it. So calling is worth it.

I've had the pro version for three days and here are my thoughts. It's a decent tablet out of the box considering the price. Specs are good and has a good feature set. However, there are some performance issues with. It has lag when scrolling and widgets crash far to often. I switched to Nova launcher and changed the setting to minimize animations. It works much better with the animations turned off. It works flawlessly when gaming so far. I've played temple run 2 and dead trigger. WiFi seems slow to me, I've preformed speed tests. Side by side with a number of devices the Sero lost every test. The screen works fine but smudges up quickly, like most. If I keep it I'm sure it will be rooted and flashed. For a buck forty nine it's a bargain. I haven't used the NFC yet. Speaks are loud enough but the sound quality is average at best. Battery life is decent and charges as expected. Fits in my pocket which makes it a great second device (third in my case). I have a Nook HD+ ($179 on mother's day) and a IPad 3. I wanted the smaller Nook HD but could not pass up the sale price on the plus. This device fits the bill for a smaller less expensive device, we'll have to wait to see about the quality. I'm happy with my purchase so far and I'd recommend this device if it fits ones needs. I do wonder if Hisense will ever update the software or if rooting will be the only option for improvement.

Don't mean to double post, but I made a video in reference to the things I mentioned in my last post. I know I didn't explain things well in text so, hopefully, this video makes things clearer. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing these bugs, or if I should take this thing back and try with a different one.

Could be a pressure issue with the digitizer. I suggest you clean the screen and try again. I would also like to see this test on 163 DPI setting.

I just picked one up, have not had a chance to set it up because I am at work without wireless access. I will report back from the perspective of a moderately technical person who moved to Android from Blackberry in March...

I called around and found two Walmarts that said they had it - and when I got to the store I found out why they had it. It was impossible to know how to get to it. There were about four kind of old ratty Samsung tablets under glass, and no other signs about other tablets or empty shelf spaces or anything tablet related. In my nearest Walmart there was a glass cabinet with rows of boxes for Nexus and Samsung and Hisense tablets, nothing like that in this store. You had to know it existed and know where to ask and then ask.

On the happy side, I found that it will go into my nice leather envelope-style Blackberry Playbook case, which I like very much.

To root, or not to root... that will be the question! I have never rooted a device, although I think I can probably be trusted with the privilege...

I got mine 2 days ago. Works great, no issues. Set it up to make and receive voice calls via google voice (only wireless), and run games for the kids. Works like a champ. Ill go back and get the extended warranty, so Its a winner.

I've got a couple of more basic Android questions.

I installed a virgin Sandisk 32GB Class 10 SDHC in my Sero PRO. The Card shows up in my storage settings, and I was able to get the camera to store data there. However I have downloaded the Sero 7 Pro Manual from the hisense site, and I have downloaded a movie with the xFinity app, and they both seem to be going into my other memory. Is there some sort of trick to getting data onto the SD Card? Some other APP I need? I've already used 1.5GB of my usable storage internal storage space, so using the SD card is manditory. I realize that I'd need to ROOT it to store apps on the card, and realize that will be mandatory in the futer.

The second thing is setting the cursor when you are typing, so that I can go back and make a correction. Sometimes it selects a word and gives me little blue thingys that I can drag to select more, and sometimes it gives me the single blue cursor-thingy, and for the life of me, I can't figure out what I'm doing differently,.

Got my Sero 7 finally! Running stock oem ROM after reboot and so far everything I tested, Cameras, LED LIGHT, GPS, SPEAKERS, WIFI, SCREEN touch is all working like it should with no issues. I did have the tablet reboot on me for some reason when I was running andftp downloading a 500 meg file using 54g wifi and that was in background while I was using google movies to try and play videos and downloading in background with the play store, once it rebooted it was telling me the battery was 4% charged and almost dead then went to 1 percent and died but I continued downloading files from lan over wifi.... so I think it killed the battery. this was after already playing with it for 3 hours and it was 50% charged out of box....

One thing I did is disabled using wifi access for location access and only enabled THE HARDWARE GPS and google access to it.. For some Reason where I live on west coast in WASHINGTON, the GPS does take anywhere from 15 seconds to a minute to lock on to 8-12 satellites. It is not instant as some other users have reported and like I said i disabled wifi network location setting... and only GPS enabled..

My screen so far as touch goes, is working like it should no skipping, dead spots, or weird crazy issues thank goodness!!! Cameras take decent pics even the front one they are installed correctly and are the correct direction. Flash works not far distances. Built in Microphone works pretty good using Tape-a-Talk Voice Recorder. No background static and it picks up far away noises and up and close audio good!

All my apps I have on phones and other tablets installed without a hitch and work correctly, so far screen quality isnt perfect, there is some very minor light bleed around edges on dark and white screen and the screen isnt installed perfectly into frame, its more over to the right side and top side than the left and bottom in frame. for the most part when using lcd test or dead pixel test you get solid colors with even brightness...

Speakers for the most part are on par, they are super loud compared to other tablets, they have no bass what so over, only mid and high range comes out. I covered each speaker while leaving opposite uncovered and I think the audio/volume quality is different between the two speakers installed, there is a hair in difference between the two of quality or volume so they are not dead on or 100% perfectly synced...

I am charging it now while its completely off and then will test bluetooth with HID headphones and built in mic. I will try GrooveIP using bluetooth headset and without to see how that works and sounds calling people using VOIP... Also still have to test the SDCARD slot and the HDMI OUT and plug it into my VIZIO 42" 1080p 60hz lcd tv...

GOOD NEWS PREVIOUS NEXUS OWNERS.. so far NO DAM SCREEN FLICKERING AT ALL in ANY APP!!!! that was the number one thing that made me return 3 nexus 7's and give up on them! Google maps and gmail and the browser showed no screen flickering as of yet using the stock brightness setting from out of the box without the auto brightness box checked!

There is two weird settings I havent played with yet, one is the power management for I guess the whole tablet and there is a power management enabled by default in the wifi settings which i left enabled and wifi is working great so far on 2.4ghz. I have yet to try my 5ghz wifi...

I did get two sero 7's shipped to me from CALIFORNIA and only have played with this first one and so far everything is working as others have reported except the GPS taking a while locking satellites. I got two to pick the best one out of and return or sell the other one!

I have a sticker that I assume is the date my tablet was made and it says 4/20 on a small white sticker on back of tablet.

I got no outside external issues around the frame, edges, back side or screen... The cameras are not perfectly centered in the lenses on outer shell and are both a little offset. but they still work great, and take photo and video fine... will share some of that later...

Just wanted to update everyone...

Got an extra one!

Just picked up two! Only one employee knew that they had arrived, and where to look for them. We're going to set them up now, but everything looks good so far. I'm loving the stock feel!

For those wanting to see if your store carries them or order them online and have them shipped site-to-store, try here:
Hisense Sero 7 Pro 7" Tablet Quad Core Processor with 8GB Memory, M470BSA: iPad & eReaders : Walmart.com

I really wish the stores would put out a display unit to try out.

I'm really tempted by Sero 7 Pro but I REALLY like the Galaxy Note 8 too with it's pressure sensitive Wacom stylus/digitizer. Being a Graphic Artist, that would REALLY come in handy, but the $399 price on it really makes the S7 much more appealing.
