Hole punch necessary in screen protector?

I've been using my S10 for over a year now, and have had (unfortunately) a variety of screen protectors on it. They've all had a cut-out portion for the hole-punch notch. I think for the front-facing camera to perform adequately, that notch has to remain uncovered.

When I had my S10+ I noticed and was a little concerned that the factory protector had a cutout for it. When I finally replaced the protector the new one did not have a cutout. It gave me a little peace of mind knowing that portion of the screen was as protected as the rest. I never noticed any issues with images from the front camera through the protector. Never experienced any problems with any of the sensors that it may have covered or anything either. I guess results may vary depending on the type and clarity of the protector.

I definitely think you have a point about the type and quality of screen protector - like glass versus a plastic film. I too am a little nervous about having that part of the screen exposed - but it's always been like that, so I guess I just try to tough it out!
