Honda Accord 2016 and AA

Any experience with Honda Accord 2016 and OP2? Mine is not working even with the USB Debug on. Do I need to change anything on the dev options?

I used the Type C cable and the converter and it keep saying that no device is detected

I have two questions: Which cable are you using? And do you get random disconnects?

I am having issues with the connection between the car and phone. It seems that HondaLink and Android Auto are battling for who connects to Bluetooth. I'm aware of the faulty USB-C cables and I made sure to buy one that's legit (but not the official cable from Google). The issue has gotten progressively worse, whereas the disconnects are more and more frequent. It's extremely frustrating and I wanting to know if it's just me or if it's a known issue.

With my Nexus 6P the USB connection defaulted to 'charge only' on the phone but when I set it to MTP (transfer files) it connected right away.

Mine is always defaulted to "Charge Only", my connection is always dropping abruptly. I'm troubleshooting it now to see if it's the cable I'm using or if the fault has to do with the USB-C. It's happening more and more often. Switching it to file transfer does not always solve the issue

why are you using honda link for anything? honda link on android is pointless. My OPO running Sultan's CAF CM12.1 is rock solid on AA '16 Accord. No drops, always connects.

Could you be patient with someone who doesn't quite understand what OPO and Sultan's CAF CM12.1 mean? Yours is still the most hopeful news I've read. I just got an EX and I'm having no luck with my Sprint LG G3 running 5.0.1. The car doesn't recognize that any phone is hooked up at all. I'm willing to get a different phone at this point. Thanks.

I have also noticed that connecting AA on my Galaxy S5 to my Honda Accord is pretty hit-and-miss. When it does work, it takes several minutes to detect and connect.

I wish that the voice command button on the steering wheel would trigger Google Now on AA when connected. Does anybody know if that's somehow configurable through Accord's settings menus?

Scott, you have to hold your mic button down longer to get the Google mic instead of the Honda mic.

Android Auto and Honda Link in the 2016 Accord do not always stay connected.. Not sure if it's a software or hardware issue. :'(

UPDATE: I purchased the official USB-C to A cable from Google Play Store and I was STILL having adbrupt disconnects. I cleared the data and cache on the Google Play Services app. At first, I thought it was the worst decision I could have made but *so far* it seems to have fixed the Android Auto disconnect issues. If anyone else is having issues with Android Auto, I recommend clearing the DATA and CACHE for Android Auto. **WARNING** doing so will reset a lot of Google's apps to before you set them up. I had to re-setup Android Pay, Android Auto, Android Wear and countless others. Basically any app that uses your Google account to log in and sync seems like. Location settings, Google Play Games, back up/restore all logged off and I had to run though the set up wizards and tutorials but it seems to have have worked. I couldn't take the inconsistent connection on Android Auto, but as much of a pain as it was to set everything back up, I would say it was worth it if it truly fixed AA.

OPO = one plus one (my phone)
Sultan's CAF CM12.1 (my rom, SultanXDA is the dev, Cyanongen Mod 12.1, CAF is a linux branch for qualcom devices)
BTW googling any of these terms would answer these types of questions.

My wife's AT&T LG G2 on stock lollipop works just fine, so I would think your G3 on a similar rom would also work. Make sure android auto app is installed on phone. You may have to turn on usb debugging, but besides that plugging into the usb under the radio should initiate the setup process.

I just got my 2016 Accord last week and w as very excited to learn Android Auto came built in as I opted not to get the navigation. I am disappointed though that it only work when connected via USB. I personally love Waze and find myself still using it more than AA for nav. Hopefully it will continue to grow with each release and become easier and less....clunky. Fingers crossed....

I think It will require USB connection for the foreseeable future. Google doesn't want you to touch your phone and bluetooth doesn't have the bandwidth to transfer realtime maps.

Hi Guys,

I recently got a Honda accord 2016 with the Sport Trim. Like the car a lot. However, I am seeing 2 things which have kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.
1. Anytime I connect my android phone (oneplue) or iphone 6 to the car over bluetooth and start a whatsapp/viber call, the phone just drops the call. I have tried on both the phones and the behaviour is super strange. For the oneplus, if i receive a whatsapp call when the phone is connected to the car over bluetooth, the call immediately drops. For the iphone in the same scenario, it wont transfer the call to the bluetooth ever. This is super annoying. Its like something is preventing the use of third party Voip apps on the car. I called Honda technical support and their answer was: "the car only support regular calling and we give no guarantee for third party apps". what a sucky answer. So i am stuck here trying to figure out why this is happening. Oh and regular calls work fine. Is anyone else seeing this issue and if so, is there a fix?
2. I got the premium audio system on the car with the subwoofer and all. i was pretty shocked to see that when u push the volume above half, the entire back panel starts vibrating. What shoddy build quality. Is this a known issue or is it something that Honda should fix?

Neither of these issues are android auto related. I could be wrong, but the bluetooth phone connection profile has nothing to do with using an app on your phone. Have you ever used these apps over any bluetooth connection?

I just purchased a 2016 Civic EX with Android Auto. I had a ton of problems from the jump but am figuring it out. With my LG G4, I have to set the USB connection to PTP instead of MTP for it to work. Most of the time it connects right away, however sometimes I have to plug and unplug several times.

I've notice that anytime the phone fails to connect it has something to do w/ bluetooth. If your phone pairs 1st then you connect the usb it always works for me. If I don't let it pair or the BT is off before plugging in the usb then the results are more like 9/10 for connecting to AA on the first try.

Hey man, was wondering if you could give me any advice. I've run into so many problems with my new accord in the last 3 days, and I have a phone with a similar build as you. I'm also running CM12, but my kernel is cyanogenmod.

my phone keeps disconnecting from the car periodically, and sometimes I can't ever establish a connection in the first place.
also AA always gets disconnected after making or receiving a call.

any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance

What phone are you using?

My only advice would be to make sure you are up to date on everything. When I first got my Accord (Sept '15) the build of CM12.1 I was running was really buggy with AA. After switching to SultanXda's unofficial CM12.1 and CM13 (his use of a CAF kernel is major difference) my AA usage became really stable. I also ran CM12.1 nightlies in there and they also worked fine. I recently switched to Dirty Unicorns Marshmallow build and that also works flawlessly with AA. On CM13, my phone would sometimes forget the car in the BT profile which would make AA not connect but that's the only issue I was having.

If you're running CM12. I would make a nandroid, wipe system and cache and then dirty flash the latest CM12 for your phone (probably hasn't changed much since Nov or so) and the latest 5.1 GAPPS (banks, slim, open, etc). Or you can clean flash CM13 or whatever with 6.0 GAPPS. Also try different usb cables preferably with a short length. good luck.

Just bought a 2016 Accord over the weekend and have a question that's not strictly AA-related, but hopefully you'll indulge me.

Do you usually leave the door that covers the USB port (and storage) open when you have your phone connected, or do you close it? Right now, I can't close it because the USB cable connector protrudes too far, though I have to see if I have a cable with a smaller connector, or if there's a USB cable with a right-angle connector out there somewhere.

If you do close that door with your phone in there, any issues with that compartment getting too warm?

I take advantage of the small opening beneath the port for my cable to come out from beneath the door with the door closed and I set my phone on the "shelf" of the upper display. I use the storage area where that port is located to store spare USB adapter and charger cables for passengers.

I can understand wanting to have a "cleaner look", though.

I used to set my phone on my lap so I wouldn't forget to bring it with me when exiting the car, but I can't do that for very long periods of time because the phone does tend to get hot when running AA, especially when navigating.

I use a 1ft cable, close the door using the cable cut-out, and sit the phone below the door in that tray area
