Honestly Is Lollipop better or worse than kitkat?

I really like the way Lollipop looks and "feels" but Kit Kat was a lot more smooth in my opinion. I'm running Lollipop on my Nexus 5 and I love it. But there are times I wish I went back to kit Kat.

Can anyone comment about the removal of the "mute/vibrate/sound" options from the hold-power menu or the removal of the alarm time from the lock screen?

Are there any fixes for this?

The "mute/vibrate/sound" option is now located in the pull down notifications menu.

Lollipop has a terrible white interface that is hard one the eyes. Anything that was black or dark in color is now white. IT'S BLINDING at night and looks like white Apple iVomit. This horrible combination of white and pastel is an absolute eyesore. White, white everywhere, and even the Material Dark theme isn't much better. It's like a 5-year old did it using bloody MS Paint. It's like they are making meaningless changes to make an illusion of adding value.

For better or for worse, we should have been given the option to revert back from Lollipop to Kitkat if we were not happy...Now we are saddled with it for life.

Was worse, after latest updates it's better. KK was a debacle, it took all the way to 4.4.4 just to become the same as 4.2.2
Waste of an update imo

Why couldn't it stay in the power menu? Why do we need to "secure" our alarm times (hide them on lock screen). It seems like a step backward. At least give me the option to add/remove.

I agree. I hate it as well. I was just telling you where to find it now.

My Samsung Galaxy S-4 was 'born' with KitKat, I selected this smartphone because the menus' white text on black backgrounds were easy to read (I'm visually impaired) the configuration menus were well organized and easy to locate/change. The forced Lollipop downgrade changed the landscape (and my entire phone) to an unusable state. The non-bolded black text on a white background is almost impossible to read without a magnifying glass and my contact list was all but unusable until I lucked onto the Contacts+ app, which allows me to choose a familiar white-on-black look and feel for my contact list. Only NOW can I see who I'm dialing (I don't prefer to call attention to my affliction by using voice commands). KitKat worked and worked well, to change my device's look, feel and functionality was unwarranted, unwelcome and unwanted. There's so much trash in 5.1's OS I'm surprised it didn't come with an 'Undo' button (which is sorely needed). Even the 'color reversal' and 'HUGE' font settings cannot restore my device's former functionality because it affects all icons and graphics rendering everywhere. Speaking of trash, that's just where this OS belongs. Thank God for apps, it's the only way we have to fix a broken phonecourtesy of Android. I spent 3 days after Lollipop trying to get my old usefulness back to my S-4 . . . the factory reset and deletion of my cache folder didn't help a bit. Lollipop works just fine if one can put up with its visual non-appeal, which is only apparent after being forcibly crippled by Android's meddling. We all got Screwgooled sad to say. I knew I should have considered an iPhone but I was stupid. Don't be fooled like me, thanks to Verizon I'm stuck with a (GREAT phone with a) crummy OS for the next two years. Grrrr

You do understand that Verizon doesn't make the updates the manufacturer does. Also if you do your research you'll find downgrading is very easy.

Thanks . . . and yes, I do. Uncle Sammy grabs the Android kernel and modifies it to 'best' suit the phones in their range. Then it goes to the carriers (Verizon in my case) they add THEIR crap. The end user pays their cash, gets the resultant abomination and gets to play Final QC -- that's OUR job and I've already reported my findings.

If I brick my new toy it's my problem. I'd rather it be Uncle Sammy's and Verizon's, TYVM. I don't consider myself qualified to root my S5 and know enough about myself to know I'd probably screw it up. This phone is my lifeline and I **like** having some sort of warranty (and ready access to tech support (such as it is) when and if I need it.

Want a job as my new T/S rep? I don't pay very well at all. ; )=

I'm fairly new to cell phones so I read up on installing a new OS on my Nexus 5. I got Android 5, did a factory restore as advised, and I've had no problems. I like Android 5. I also liked Android 4.4.4. I wonder what Android 5.5.5 will be like?

i'm kinda a noob to smartphones. i just bought an HTC Desire 816, and absolutely love it. However, I keep getting notifications, at least once a day, that the system has an available upgrade to the newest OS: Lollipop. I am happy with KitKat, and from everything I've read want to stick with it. I keep disabling the notification and force stopping it, but it continually resets. I there some way I can permanently stop the requests to upgrade?

Had the same problem on my Samsung Note Pro 12.2 and I could not disable the repeated notifications. In fact it downloaded Lollipop and asked me to install which I did not for several weeks. After continued requests to install each day, I finally broke down and installed it. Mistake. Lollipop broke my bluetooth keyboard. Been waiting for a fix for a month now and still no joy.

Maybe there are some security fixes (who knows) with Lollipop but I could not see any real improvements over KitKat and it disabled my keyboard.

Last night I downloaded lalipop 5.I. I and my only complaint is Facebook I'm getting some freezing on Facebook that's about it it's not all that bad

You know how in Windows 10, you have the option to rollback to your old OS if you don't like the new one? Why can't Google also give the option to rollback to previous version officially if you don't like the new version?

Well idk y 5.1 isn't available for my device (Samsung galaxy s4 active) but since I upgraded to lollipop I've had nothing but problems! Freezes, BATTERY DRAINS INSANELY!!!! ALONG with many other issues. As for the looks, I only like the fact that it's now white in the settings! Can I go back to kitkat?

Its the most annoying OS ever created. Does run faster tho. :) But yeah the giant banners when I get chat messages make me want to smash my phone to tiny pieces. STOP TRY TO BE LIKE APPLE! If I wanted IOS I'd by F&% iphone!

It just occurred to me that all hope is lost now. All new android phones will be like this. May as well just buy an iphone and get it over with. Since android is going to be like destroy everything that I like android for.

Is there a new phone os that going to come out soon that is not going to be annoying and just let me do what I am trying to do on it without interrupting me all the time? Whats windows phone like?
