Houston, we have a serious (display) problem!

I've had every Samsung S or Note device since the S10 and Note 10 and every Ultra....never had a display issue. Refresh my memory on what the issues were. I've also had every Zfold since the 3
Relax their kemosabe LOL I was simply poking fun at the fact that every time there is a Samsung release inevitably somebody complains about the display. Not me per say, but somebody. Which is why the word issues was in quotations ...

every launch is an exaggeration but I do remember how certain phones might have light bleed or something else.

I think most liked the S24U, S25U got dinged for losing BT pen and arguable downgrade on one of the cameras.

I like the concept of privacy, but not a biggie for me. I wish my company which issues us devices (iphones) would say - wow, that's great, we're buying all our employees that!

I am conerned about the screen being less bright because of the innovation trade off.

I like my titanium! And I'll keep it awhile longer.

If these are truly the same screen, the privacy feature would be software and software can be fixed.

It's a neat concept but if you're that concerned, situational awareness, dont do sensitive tasks in public and if you can't manage that, get a privacy screen protector.

Samsung is running out of new and interesting upgrades. Not that I matters since we'll all be Google iFruit users soon with no sideloading. Might as well get an older Ultra if you need zoom or a lower model if you don't.

All phone manufacturers are running out of upgrades as what more is there. Just because you or me don't see something as useful doesn't mean it isn't for others. For me camera updates are useless and camera updates are always the number one update on phones because it's what they have that they can update. It's a phone, want a high quality camera then buy a camera. So I understand when you don't think Samsung did much, and they didn't, but they really did IMO.

The 60 watt charging is a game changer for Samsung, it works good, it's a upgrade. The privacy screen..I am one of those that isn't concerned with privacy on the phone, never worried, but with it built in the phone and you can customize what it comes on for I am using it. It works good and Samsung releasing privacy screen to me is groundbreaking..I think it will only get better and other manufacturers are going to copy it. Samsung was brilliant in making it so you have it work only when you want it. I wouldn't want it 24/7 which is why I wouldn't want a stick on privacy protector. The people that use those are probably going to be thrilled with this and love privacy screen on the 26U.

That is valid except for referring to this phone. The average Ultra user will not make use of the privacy thing. Why? 1) Gimmick. 2) The ultra isnt marketed towards nor would any sane company buy employees Ultra's.

As for innovation, with chip prices higher than ever, even a step back can be a leap forward. Bring back expandable storage. Figure out how to make a replaceable battery while maintaining IP68. Add a damn headphone jack.

Those three features would likely have people in droves coming to Samsung.

I guess I'm a guy that likes the gimmicks. Expandable storage, headset Jack and replaceable battery don't matter to me. If any of those 3 I would want back it would be replaceable battery, but being IP68 would be difficult. Back when there was replaceable batteries the battery only lasted part of the day, now it's not a big issue, the battery lasts all day and more for most users now.

Headphone jack is a dinosaur nowadays. Most everyone uses Bluetooth headphones. But you can also get USB-C headphones. Heck a headphone jack to USB-C adapter is like $5.
Today's battery tech has come a long way since the removable battery days. I don't feel the need to replace a smartphone battery in the last few years. Batteries last pretty much the whole day. When we go camping we bring an external battery capable of charging everyone's cell and tablets multiple times over.

I do wish they would go back to the days when the SIM card doubled as a SD-Card holder as well.
IMHO that would be extremely useful as memory chips prices have gone through the roof.

And you're both doing the exact same thing i did. Dismiss desirable features based on your use case.

As far as making it water resistant, yes that would be a challenge but guess what, that's what new features used to be.
Challenges designed to be useful and enticing features for users to get excited over. It was called putting effort into making a new phone. Every year has been mostly refinements, except this year where they finally realized high megapixel cannot make up for lens and went back to 10x.

For @jamezr
Removable battery and longevity have no correlation other than history. You said it yourself, the tech has come a long way. Being pull tab glued in vs placed has zero impact on how long it will last.
It's about obsolescence once degradation takes place and convenience of quickswap.
My batteries have mostly been fine since I charge from 20% to 80% but that's a PITA. I want to be able to use my battery without thinking about it so my phone doesn't become e-Waste in 2-3 years.
I haven't found a single bluetooth headphone that sounds good. That coupled with Bluetooth using nore battery is no bueno. The jack being there would hurt no one. What else is no bueno is having to carry the stupid adapter around. Further all adapters are not equal. They have their own DAC that affects sound.

Feeling the need to invalidate one another has turned the internet into what it is (thanks reddit) for fake update points and eventually elsewhere.
Point is we all have things we want and others can dismiss it, yet there's a counter to it all. Its opinion.

Go read post 25 again. I'm not invalidating anything.. There's not much to change anymore..I just explained my view. If anything you are invalidating the ones that like the changes they made. I clearly said in post 25 we all have different wants.. We all aren't going to get them, we have to accept the product or don't buy it. Vote with your check book is all you can do and it sounds like you are.

I don't upgrade every year for features as much as I do for new hardware, batteries, warranty and such. That's me

No one is invalidating anyone here...
You stated your preferences as facts assumed by everyone. They are not facts but just your preferences.

Battery technology is better than what it was in the days where we had to swap batteries to get through a heavy day. My preference is for battery tech to continue to evolve so i don't have to carry spares AND worry if my spares are completely charged. Then I don't WANT the added task of charging spare batteries. I would rather have a charger to charge my phone.....
Then If I am unable to charge my phone...such as when we go camping...... I can carry a battery charger capable of charging my phone and my whole families phones.

I have several Bluetooth headphones that sound amazing to me.... IMHO they don't take mean a battery loss because see above paragraph. IMHO the headphone jack can be replaced with the existing USB-C port. wired USB-C headphone negate the need for a headphone jack...and there are headphone jack adapters as well.

Anyway...no harm for people to state their preferences.....no harm as well for people to have differing preferences. My preferences are mine and do not invalidate anyone else's.......they are just mine....

Reports now from myriad sources are making it more and more clear that early isolated reports of eye strain and horrible screen quality are complete nonsense.
Perhaps some those folks were hoping for a sparkling screen with privacy set to maximum while viewing from a 100° angle. 🤣

The privacy setting max one isn't so bad. I mean you would just use it at work or out and about its fine.

them's fightin' words 😂
Yeah ima scared so I moved along as instructed.

But a mustang won't be me on the track lol.

As for the screen proper analysis needs to be done over the words of 3 or 4 people online.

Maybe if Samsung wasn't so cheap and paid the licensing fee for DV and moved on from dead HDR10+, I'd care enough to go to BestBuy and check it myself.

Just to be sure it's not just me, setting the maximum privacy turns the screen into somewhat of a translucent white screen?

Not sure I'll use it at that setting, but for now I have just turned it on conditionally for passwords, notifications, etc.

I'll never use privacy screen full time, you can definitely see it's on in dark mode, privacy screen for me is best used as you stated. I have my messaging apps, Facebook set up using privacy screen also.
