Kind of intrigued by the new Google camera app. Have tried two other camera apps--Zoom Camera FX and Camera FV-5. These other apps have some extra features not found on the stock Moto app (most notably image stabilization, c'mon Moto...), but side-by-side comparisons showed me they don't take better photos than the stock app. I'm kind of hesitant to install yet another camera app.

So if you have installed the new Google camera app how about some side-by-side comparison photos with the stock Moto camera app? Same camera settings, same lighting conditions.

Where do we get the Google camera app? Or apk I guess...

Thanks, found it! I disabled the stock moto camera but also noticed it installed another gallery. Do you know if this gallery can be uninstalled and still use the stock moto gallery...just don't want to hit uninstall and lose all my pics.

I see no difference but have disabled the Moto stuff and am using the Google camera and gallery.

Thanks for posting the photos. I loaded them both in Photoshop Elements, got them situated so they were exactly aligned in the viewing window, then zoomed in a few ticks. To my eyes the photo by the stock Moto camera looks slightly better. It is a tad more brighter and has less noise. You can see this if you look at the bluish triangle of carpeting adjacent to the chair and the chest and also look at the area just to the right of the lamp's light deflector. Look at these areas and switch back-and-forth between the two images and you'll see what I mean. It's subtle but you can see it. As to brightness, look at the light hitting the edge of the pillow (on the chair.)

Yup I see what you're saying. I am going to stick with the Google version for now bc I like photosphere. I also like the Google gallery and how when you view an image from a text, you don't have to swipe the gallery away from Recent Apps.

I didn't want multiple cameras so I disabled one. Plus, this way I now have the Google cam on my lock screen.

I have not disabled the stock camera yet, what is the benefit?

As to photo quality, apparently none. You do get Photosphere with the Google camera app and some have said they like the Gallery better. But I think you lose HDR mode--can anyone confirm?

I've used the GE camera for a couple of weeks. I can't find HDR mode.

I did not find HDR mode either. I do like the photo sphere option, So i will be keeping both cameras enabled.
