How can HTC be this incompetant

Clearly, you've never ordered what purports to be an OEM/Samsung charger from Amazon.

Clearly because for phones, micro USB is the standard and I don't tie myself to strictly OEM products.

Lets not argue about chargers guys, they all do the same thing. Just in a different way or in less time.

I hate to say this but

if you are going to call a company incompetent shouldn't you spell it right first?

Yes I went there.

Last I heard they couldn't keep up with demand so not sure what better marketing would do at this point, theory of constraints and all.

I have no idea why everyone expects HTC to market this phone like Samsung does with the s4. They just don't have the resources, so to me the better play is to smartly market the phone while investing more in support and building the next phone. The phone is selling it may not be selling like the s4 but it was never expected to.I think HTC needed a solid base hit which this phone has been eventually if they continue to produce great devices profits will rise as more people will learn what HTC is and that they are a viable option.

Look at it another way. You may not have even been able to visit the Best Buy if Samsung hadn't paid huge amounts of money for some space to help keep them afloat...lol!

Also, how can HTC have their own "section?" Even if they had the money, they don't have enough devices to warrant it. You can't have an "HTC" section and then only display the One and the DOA. Samsung has a number of different phones, tablets, etc.

However, some good signage might be in order.

Hey Phil : )

Its a good point you make, but on the other hand, why even BOTHER making, "the most amazing bag of potato chips if you KNOW you are not going to be able to afford any supermarket shelf space where ppl can get your product??!"

i can see where OP is coming from, i also would like to call out LG for making the most amazing phone (LG O Pro) and barely marketing it.... If & when they get around to it, Note 3 will be here and ppl will be like, "LG who?" Especially when you consider the last iteration of their competition to Samsung's Note series (LG Intuition) was almost (at least in USA) a joke... How they haven't felt the need to yell and yell LOUDLY that, "HEY WORLD- We got it right this time!!!" is baffling, you almost have to question the logic..

.(Well, if you're an obsessed, compulsive, phone addict you do, which i am - Normal ppl prolly could care less about the hows and whys of cell phone mfg marketing strategies...lol ) :-*

There's a big difference between no space, and not as much space as the biggest brands.

I have had the advantage of using a new HTC One head-to-head with the Samsung Galaxy S4 since the wife upgraded the same day. After using both, I can objectively say the the One is a better built and better designed device, but you wouldn't know it based on press and marketing.

I stopped into Best Buy yesterday (unrelated item) and noticed a display for Samsung devices that was VERY prominent, well designed and twice the footprint of Apple- HTC had ZERO representation.

Is HTC stoned, stupid or fully incompetent? I am not a fanboy per se but I have to wonder who is running the "show" for HTC because they are shooting themselves in the forehead with marketing apathy.

I know some within the industry review these boards and I ask for their opinions. If anyone from HTC is reading this, I bought the One and love it but I find it perplexing that you seem to work to undercut your own products or (at the very least) seem content with getting the proverbial sand kicked into your face by the beach-bully ****** when you offer an arguably superior product...

HTC is using a different tactic which focuses on countering mass marketing with using online reviews. The problem is they only attract people who are making a big choice in their phone decision rather than targeting everyone like Samsung. Most of the people who take the time to research phones end up coming across the HTC One.

Hey, their ads are getting better at least. The latest 'dig' ads are pretty good. They definitely feature something that normal users will care about.

Exactly!! and that's the whole point! That's exactly how samsung got so big, it pointed out features of the phones that made the things that mattered most to consumer's easier.

You've entirely missed the point, which is simply that if one wishes HTC to have the same success as Samsung, be prepared for the downside (crap counterfeit chargers, etc.) Please try to keep up rather than trying to pick a fight where there is none.

But are they forced into "using online reviews" because they don't have the budget for space even the size of Apple's at Best Buy?

I'm curious, how does a company use online reviews as a marketing tactic? Are you saying they are paying off the various tech sites for favorable reviews? Or are they quoting from the reviews in advertising?

That is usually a part of the reason, also a since it is still fairly new flagship, it wouldn't make sense to mass market something that is not a household name. Samsung and apple have been household names for decades.

That's not what I am saying, what I am saying is that they are positive their phone will return great reviews that people like to post online. For example if you visit the t-mobile or AT&T website, you will see that the HTC One is highly reviewed. HTC is counting on other websites review setups to help counter the mass marketing. Think about it, if your serious about buying something expensive or a high cost service, after you use word of mouth and see advertisements, what else do you do? The answer is you look online for the general publics opinions to help you make your decision.

What you're saying is that they're letting the phone market itself.

In a sense yes, but they kick started it themselves with well known phone reviewers in the geek world. Kind of like the nexus, you would not know about the nexus unless you do some research right? And the nexus has marketed itself very well with the whole idea of being a "Google" phone without mass marketing. If you ask your average Joe about the nexus, he won't know what you are talking about, however you might get more responses if you ask the average Joe about the HTC One because it has made a huge impact via word of mouth through internet reviews. But if you ask the average Joe what are the biggest phones out there, he will be quick to say Samsung and Apple right? The HTC markets itself this way but with it's physical features and Zoe camera as the introduction to the fresh viewer. Samsung and apple don't have to really do much but drop big bucks, it's Samsung and apple, they are well trusted throughout the entire world. People who don't review phones will most likely buy a Samsung or apple for powerhouse phones, but people who review phones will most likely think twice before buying either of those.
