How can I change text message notification preferences? Samsung Galaxy Note 5

My phone used to show a preview of incoming text and multimedia messages in the status bar along with the notification that a message had been received. A few days ago, I tried an option that turned that preview off to see if I liked it. Turns out I don't, but I can't remember where the option to turn the preview on and off is located in the myriad menus on my device. Does anyone know where specifically to go to change this preference without a hard or soft reset?

Just the default Samsung app, yes.

Is your Note 5 on Oreo? Because the new SMS app on Oreo is different from the one on Nougat, and I don't have a Samsung Nougat device anymore. It's supposed to be in Messages>three dots>Settings>notifications. But after that the menus would be different.

It's currently running Nougat v. 7.0. Also, that menu path is indeed the correct one. Thank you!
