How can I fix my Google Play Music sync?

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

Same for me, it's a mix of All Access tracks along with uploaded music. I don't really buy much music at Google so I'm not sure if purchased music is affected, but I'll have to take a look at that.

I did ask the L1 support guy if it might be a permissioning issue and he didn't think so because it's usually all or nothing in that case.

I've now been assigned a specialist and we're gonna set up a call to go through everything instead of through email.

Any luck with the specialist?

On Friday Google Support suggested waiting it out for my library to completely load. No luck over the weekend. I emailed Google Support back to let them know. I referenced this thread so hopefully that will help get things moving along.

I references this thread as well. We've been emailing back and forth trying different things, such as turning airplane mode on, rebooting, turning airplane mode off, then trying to re-sync. Nothing has worked yet. I'm starting to get pretty frustrated, particularly because it's working great on my other devices.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

Still have to schedule an appointment with him so I haven't done anything else yet.

When I get home, one thing I was gonna do was add all my songs to a playlist from a web browser (which seems to be unaffected) and then view that playlist on my devices. This will give me a good idea of how many songs are missing.

I have one device that has my full library and two phones that do not. The weird thing there is that one of my phones initially had my full library, then after I noticed this problem, I refreshed that library and suddenly I started missing the same songs on that phone too. So beware, refreshing the library on a device with a full library may cause it to have this problem.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

So of my 2908 All Access songs, only 2379 show up on my phones. I have around 16000 uploaded and purchased so I didn't check them all (1000 song max per playlist) but of the first 4000 songs, only 2647 are available.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

Is it related to the file type, perhaps? I had a 64GB SD card which worked fine in my old Galaxy S4 (the card was filled with nothing but music), and popped it into my G4. A great deal of the music showed up in the stock music player (and also the Shuttle music app) as "Unknown Artist". After scratching my head and putzing around, I discovered that the affected music was anything not in .mp3 format (.wma, .m4a, etc). I just now checked my library in Google Play, and those same files show up as "Unknown Artist" as well.

Strangely, deleting those files from the SD card and re-copying them - leaving them in whatever format they were still in - fixed the issue.

I don't believe so. I don't have an SD card in my device at the moment and the missing music is a mix of albums added with All Access and uploaded to Google's servers. None of this is locally stored music.

Same here. I'm at a loss for what to do next. I feel like I've tried everything - twice - and I don't think Google knows where to go next. I can't help but think it is either server side or a bug with the app. I'm really hoping this gets resolved quickly. I use All Access on my phone for runs and it's becoming a pain having ~25% of my music randomly missing.

On the bright side, I've been able to catch up on old podcasts.

I'm gonna keep bothering Google Support, but I need to make a decision by next Wednesday.

Either return the phone and go back to my old Moto G, or hold onto the phone and have faith that a fix will come along soon.

Second option seems like a gamble. Leaning towards returning the phone since I bought it at full MSRP. :/

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

Seriously sounds like an issue on Google side. You've done everything. Maybe exchange the phone for a new one?

Okay...[language removed by mod]. I just checked my Nexus 5 (wifi-only now) and my Thumbs Up playlist has 1654 songs in it, while my new G4's Thumbs Up playlist has 1609...and it's been 1609 for days.

So, which songs are missing, damn't?

And that's just from my playlist...no telling what's missing elsewhere. Ugh!

Nooooo they got you too! Is 1654 the full count on the web app too?

When you get the chance, please contact Google Support and keep bugging them. If it's something with their servers we need as many people as possible letting them know.

My web is even lower for the thumbs up playlist, at 1570....not sure what's going on there.
Could it be that my device has songs locally on it which I've thumbed up, and therefore they're not on the web version?
Even if so, I don't think I have any purely on my phone. I merely upload everything I own to Play Music, and add All Access stuff to that.

I'll contact them.

That's odd. Are you able to ID any playlists or albums that are incomplete or missing?

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

Old phone has 756 songs for a Japanese artist I follow. G4 has 756. Web...767. Wha?

Now I'm just confused completely.

Are any of the artists/songs missing from foreign/strange/possibly difficult for Google to figure out material?
At first I thought maybe if I had a song in a foreign language, that was the key, but it doesn't appear so.

Still working on that.

edit: So, I have literally 1 Britney Spears song on my old phone, and it is missing on the G4. I don't care much about that song anyway, but it missing concerns me. Continuing the search now (scrolling on both phones side-by-side and comparing).

edit2: Okay, so doing a search in All Access for that measly song from Britney Spears turns up EMPTY. The song is "Circus" and it was off of the album "Circus". Guess what - my Nexus 5 has that album still, as I had added it at some point, but only that song. The search results no longer list that album - it lists the DELUXE version of that album.

My theory is that is why my song isn't on my new phone. I'll do more searching to see if I can find what else is missing, but if this is true, this is EXACTLY what I was referring to on Page 1 of this thread. Music disappears from Play Music when they either end licensing deals or, apparently, just get rid of random ****.

edit3: Yup. So, I had one album (still on Nexus 5) from Journey. "Greatest Hits / Greatest Hits 2". That albums doesn't exist in Play Music anymore, so it didn't go to my G4. A search pulls up the albums, but separated as "Greatest Hits" and "Greatest Hits 2".

edit4: Same story with Queen's "Greatest Hits I, II, and III" album. Doesn't show up in searches in Play Music anymore.

I'm done with edits, I guess.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

And "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" by The Shirelles no longer plays on my Nexus 5 despite still being listed in my collection. Because it's gone. Because Google Play Music no longer has access to it. So neither do I. This is deja vu to when I lost a really great album from Lacuna Coil and ALL my albums from a Korean artist named Davichi, only a few months after Google released All Access.

This is just how Google's All Access is going to work, I suppose. Perhaps there's no way around it. A downfall of a subscription service, not actually owning some of your own music? *sigh*

I'm pretty disappointed right now.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

That doesn't explain why uploaded songs are affected too though. The whole point of the music locker is to handle songs that aren't licensed for All Access.

One interesting thing is that Britney Spears Circus album doesn't show up for me on my phone either. Only the Deluxe Edition shows up. I'll check from a web browser what shows up when I get home.

It'd be interesting if it's the same songs that are unavailable for all of us.

That's my prediction. You won't be able to find the albums/songs I just listed anymore, despite them still sitting right here on my old phone. But they don't play on the Nexus 5 anymore either...they're just still listed in my collection. This explains why the playlist counts are all off for everyone who has experienced this.

As for you uploading your own music you've ripped...

1) Could Google's servers try to be matching the music to their own stuff when you upload them, and if matched, and then this occurs where they later remove the music, you lose your music? (Hope that made sense)

or 2), Are you guys absolutely, 100% without a doubt whatsoever, that it was music you had ripped and then uploaded, and it is gone? Instead of thinking it was, but it instead was All Access?

I'm 100% sure it's affecting both my own uploaded music and All Access music as well.

For example, the new Taylor Swift album is not even offered through All Access subscription so I uploaded it myself. There should be no matching problems as All Access does not even have her new album available. For whatever reason, on my S6, only tracks 5 and then 12+ show up; yet they all show up fine on my other devices.

Similarly, I added the new Millencolin album to My Library a couple weeks ago through All Access and it is also only showing 2 tracks on my S6 even though all tracks are available on other devices. I don't own, nor did I upload this album - it is simply one I added to my library through my subscription.

So for whatever reason, it is affecting both music I've personally uploaded, as well as albums/songs I've added through the subscription. But it's only affecting my one device, the Galaxy S6.

Also, I can factory reset, re-sync, delete cache/app data, etc 1000x times and I end up with the exact same albums/tracks missing every single time Play Music re-syncs. It's really weird. It has to be a Google issue. How else would it be affecting both the G4 and the S6?

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

Yeah, definitely a Google-side issue.

Those tracks that are missing on the newer device but still listed on the older device - do those tracks still actually load and play on the older device?

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

Is the Millencolin album the True Brew one? Can you successfully delete the album on the old device (which has all the tracks), then search and re-add it to the old device?
