How can I fix my Google Play Music sync?

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

Yeah, definitely a Google-side issue.

Those tracks that are missing on the newer device but still listed on the older device - do those tracks still actually load and play on the older device?

Yep, works perfect on other devices.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

Is the Millencolin album the True Brew one? Can you successfully delete the album on the old device (which has all the tracks), then search and re-add it to the old device?

Yes, that's the album. So I just removed the album from my Nexus 5, the re-added it to My Library and it worked good. Then I went on to my Galaxy S6, and that specific album is now syncing correctly. Before, it was only showing a couple songs. Now, it synced correctly and is showing everything. So that is a temporary solution, but I don't want to have to do that for potentially hundreds of albums/songs.

EDIT: So that appears to have done something. That Taylor Swift album is now synced correctly on my S6, as are about 5 other albums I was having issues with. I'm still missing a few odd songs here or there, but it seems to have fixed 90% of the missing tracks.

Hey, at least we're getting some music back. I can understand not wanting to do that for every single item though. Sheesh.
We're gradually getting somewhere, perhaps.

Interesting. I'll try to spend some time this weekend re-adding certain albums from my Nexus 9. However, I'm worried how this will affect some of the playlists I've created.

If on another device an album is removed and re-added then shows up again on my G4, I'm guessing any playlists containing tracks from that album won't automatically repopulate - those songs will have to be added to the playlist again. I'll have to save the contents of some of my most listened playlists before tinkering around with removing/adding.

Also, I just added the new Florence + the Machine album from the web app and it immediately showed up on my G4.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

So adding and re-adding from your web app seems to work for both All Access and uploaded albums.

For uploaded albums, you DO NOT have to actually re-upload. You want to delete the album from the web app and immediately click 'undo' on the gray notification that pops up. Tried it with an album I uploaded years ago. It just showed up in full on my G4. Previously it was missing three tracks.

---

Also it looks like adding and re-adding DOES remove any of the album's tracks from playlists they may have been in. If you have any must-have playlists, you'll want to back those up somehow.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

Deleting and undoing works! I deleted an uploaded album on the web and hit undo and a second later, it started redownloading the entire album on my phone.

Now I just need to do it a few thousand times.

So we've found a "fix". But be aware of the playlist thing though! Might want find a way to backup your must-have playlists so you can rebuild those afterward.

Looks like I'll be tinkering with the web app for a few hours this weekend. Need to pick a nice sixer for the occasion.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

I'm glad I could help out with the troubleshooting! :-)

Yeah, Play Music is a bit of a mess with this stuff it seems...it's cool if you just keep it simple with one device for a long time, and Google doesn't remove or re-organize their music that you've added. Otherwise, things get messy.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

By the way, can anyone help me stop the G4 from automatically turning my volume back down every. single. damn. time I start Play Music?
A notification comes up at the bottom claiming it turns it down to protect my hearing.
I'm just trying to play music through my car's speakers, damn't. Now I have to turn my volume back up every single time, multiple times a day.

Any suggestions? I looked in the G4's settings but don't see anything.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

So I think Google has finally found a fix that worked for me.

They told me to de-authorize my existing phone (Nexus 5), then refresh my library on my S6. I did that and it didn't work, but then I went into the App Info for Play Music on my S6, force stopped and deleted the app data. Then open the app, signed in and all my music synced correctly (at least as far as the 10 or so albums I have checked that I was missing before).

Try giving this a shot.

Congrats! Let me know if it looks like it's all fixed for you.

Unfortunately I don't have any deauthorizations left. Still don't understand why Google implemented the 4 deauth limit last year. Anyways, I emailed Google Support to see if they can do anything about the limit. I've heard of them clearing authorizations for some users so they can start from scratch. Fingers crossed.

I got Google to reset my authorized devices and deauth limit to zero. Old devices were all deauthorized. Force stopped the GPM app on my G4, deleted data, uninstalled update, rebooted, installed update, and signed back in. No luck. Still have missing albums and incomplete/blank playlists.

Not worried though. Deleting and re-adding from the web app will have to be my fix. I'll work on it over a few days/nights. At least I got my authorized devices reset.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

Thanks for the undo trick, spent about 2 hours last night readding before seeing that. Still have allot of stuff to go through.

Couple of observations. As most know this seems to be a Google server side problem. It did it on my nexus 6 when I cleaned flashed a rom. Tons of my uploaded music missing. Wasn't doing it before. Then went to my nexus 4, wasn't doing it. Clearing data and resyncing on the nexus 4 caused it there. However, when I used a titanium backup from my nexus 6 (or my wife's s3) from when all songs were there all the music showed up. Obviously, if I were to wipe data in the app the songs would disappear again,so I need to go through and fix stuff through the computer website still. Hopefully google can figure this out.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

UPDATE! Still not fully synced, and still no fix from Google Support. But I may have found a much more efficient way to delete/restore my library and force music to show up on my G4.

My plan this week is to first export all of my playlist information into CSV files with the ExportLists python script I found in the link below.

https://github.com/soulfx/gmusic-playlist

If the playlist export works, I'll then go to Songs in the web app, select all, then delete. Again, I'll quickly try to hit the Undo option that pops up. (I also realized there's a Trash where deleted music is stored for 28 days for restoring.)

If all goes well, my music should all appear on my G4. I may restore in smaller chunks to avoid any issues with syncing 20k+ songs.

Finally I'll use the ImportList script in the link above to repopulate the playlists I lost with the delete/restore. If the import doesn't work, I'll just manually rebuild the playlists I need recovered.

Fingers crossed. You guys have any luck?

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

Nothing new here. The Google tech guy said he forwarded my logs to engineering but promised no dates on a fix.

I'm deleting and undoing as I run into songs that are missing. But I got the T-Mobile G4 and they offered a free 128 GB MicroSD card. As soon as that comes in, I'm putting the majority of my 15k+ songs on it to bypass this whole issue.

I'm most likely switching away from Google Play Music as a result of this, as it's no longer a valid option. Microsoft has said they're updating the XBox Music app this summer so Android can access its music locker and that's much easier to manage (just add files into your OneDrive Music folder). XBox Music is cheaper with annual sales that bring it down to $3.50/month.

I have not seen this problem with Google Play Music? I mean, I haven't experienced it.

I've had this issue with Google music from day one when it first came to Canada - I long ago gave up on it. I think it has to do with the number of songs, although I'm not sure.

I now use either airdroid to move music to my phone over WIFI or FolderSync plus Dropbox (store your favourite albums on Dropbox and have FolderSync automatically copy songs to your phone over wifi).

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

So someone on XDA found a better way to force albums to show up on your phone. This doesn't involve deleting/restoring - meaning playlists will not be unpopulated by the deletion of tracks.

-Log into the GPM web app.
-Go to an artist.
-Go to "All My Songs".
-Highlight all the artist's songs.
-Right click, edit, click save.

DON'T change any of the fields. Just click save. I've done this with a bunch of artists and everything magically appears on my phone. Doesn't clog up my "Recent Activity" page, either.

This doesn't seem to work when selecting my entire library under the "Songs" tab. Edit-save also doesn't seem to work for playlists, either.

---

I'm still working on getting the Python script to work for export/importing playlists from GPM. Ran into a problem and emailed the script's author.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

I've been having this same issue with my S6 as well and stumbled across this page while searching the internets. Your edit all songs trick is working for the albums that I know of. However, I have over 19,000 songs in my library (a mix of All Access, uploaded, and items purchased via Google Play) and the thought of doing this to all of them is giving me a slight headache.

EDIT: I noticed that this trick doesn't fix the playlists, though. They will still have missing tracks despite those tracks showing up in your library.

These exact issues affecting my oneplus one. Playlists have many songs missing, thumbs up, for example, missing about 400 lol. Done all the trouble shooting tips, the deathorise one is bad for device limits tho so wont do that one, especially as it appears to be a google side issue.
