How can I free up memory space?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace. On the phone, I have 3 pictures and 4 downloaded apps from the play store. I have 6 songs. However, I only have 14 MB free according to the 'manage applications' tab and i am unable to update my apps or download music. I am not sure why this is! Perhaps, it is because I saved my contacts to phone - but most forums say this shouldn't matter. It may just be that I have too many things. If this is the case, can anyone recommend a way to free some up? But overall I just want to know why I have so little memory space! Thanks!

I found that the Ace has multiple versions, the most recent is the Ace 3. Is that the one you have? Could you give the model number?

The model is a 'Samsung Galaxy Ace La Fleur GT-S5830'. I think it is the oldest type there is, although I am not sure...

And I would take apps you don't use, uninstall the updates and disable them.
