How can I make Gallery just *display* photos, like it used to?

Hi, I have an HTC One M8, which I think is a fantastic phone probably the best I've ever had. Currently up to Android 4.4.4 (sorry, I lose track of the funky names).

Somewhere along the way, the built-in Gallery app got 'upgraded' (huh!) so that rather than simply letting me look at my photos, it insists on create a cutesy video, along with horrible background music. I really don't want this. How can I change it so that it just does what I want?

If this is not possible, can somebody suggest a decent gallery viewer - I'm sure there must be hundreds, if not thousands of them?

I don't know about the video problem but QuickPic is a good gallery alternative.

Thanks - I've just installed quick pic, after doing a search for 'best gallery replacement' but it seems stoopid that I have to resort to doing this. Why can they just keep things simple?

Did you try disabling your Zoe app? It somehow ties into your HTC Gallery and attempts to make mini slideshows of your pics. Super annoying!
