Hi

I am learning my Samsung Android phone J3V which is using Android 6( very old version).

When I text and want to attach photo, it shows it's from Samsung Gallery. I want to replace it with Google Gallery which I already INSTALLED. I went online and look, I tried to follow but I can't find what they described. This is the link from google:

https://support.google.com/photos/answer/14216276?hl=en

it is likely that the description is for newer version of Android.

I went through "Setting>Apps", scroll to Samsung Gallery and STOP the program, I try to click Google Gallery but it does not allow me to set it as default.

Anyone has suggestion?

thanks

Alan

Have you considered a midrange Google Pixel? That would probably be the inexpensive option for photos on a phone.
I have no preference as I don't know anything. Like I said, I mainly worry about the camera.

To be clear, number of pixels are NOT important for me. As I photographer that actually have experience in professional photography, anything over 8M pixel are literally a waste unless you want to blow up a picture to 24"X20" or bigger. I did weddings using 200 ISO speed and enlarge to 11X14 and nobody can tell the difference. I still have my Hasselbred camera set that can use 6M at the time and people were happy.

This whole resolution is A HOAX. How often you take a picture from a phone camera to blow up to 4X6 feet big?

So I don't need high resolution, even 4M is plenty, only thing is whether the camera has the intelligence to sense back light situation and over expose to lighten up the faces. That's all. If I need high quality pictures, I have very expensive cameras already if I need to take any important pictures.

I am looking at Google Pixel 3a and 4a in that price range. It's all about the camera at this point. ONLY problem is they are older only Android 9 or 10. Galaxy A15 is from end of 2023 with later Android.

Thanks

It's ok but the camera I think will be a disappointment.
Sounds like Samsung Galaxy A15 is the most reasonable one at about $140. Google Pixel are more expensive, for $150, I can only get a4, that's from 2021 and Android version 10, Meaning I will run into the same problem with my old phone with version 6 again soon. I thing Galaxy A15 has Android version 14.

this go right back to the original issue in this thread, nothing online or even here can help me as my phone is too old, it's completely different. If not for that, I can still hang on to my old phone.

Thanks

What's your price range?
About $150, not over $200.

Like I said, security, computer power is NOT important at all, even 60G memory is plenty.

Camera of 8M pixels are plenty, I hope to find one that is intelligent enough to brighten up the face if the sun is at the back.

Having late version of Android is more important ( Samsung Galaxy A15 has Android 13 for $142 is the best so far).

Thanks

I think the only thing other than the newer Android version is HDR for camera.

HDR is high dynamic range, they are for night scenes, but should apply to sun at the back, that gives a HDR scene, a good camera can detect that and light up the face.

Thanks

What is the difference between "International version" "US version" and "Latino American version"?

I read about the warranty and program. But is it important to get the US version?

Also is it important to get 5G instead of 4G. I will never watch movies or any high bendwidth stuffs. Like I said, I have good laptop for all that and I don't do anything on the phone when I am out. At best search on google to read something. Speed is of ABSOLUTELY NOT IMPORTANT.

thanks

Hi

Sorry with all the questions. I found this, US version, Camera with HDR, Android version 14. It's $200

That's the cheapest I can find so far. Let me know what you think.

https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_a15-12637.php

I am really taking a crash course on phones. I learn HDR, difference in US, International and Latin America version.

If International version is just as good, I can get the same phone for $143.

Thanks

That couldn't be more false than you put it. No, higher MP doesnt mean its better but saying a factual, absolute statement that anything over 8MP is a waste? There's sensors, there's aperture, lens quality.

You are not a photographer my let alone a professional one.

And listen to the advice above... Just get a Pixel and problem solved. Samsung will always try and force you to use their apps and cheap Motorolas are house brand Verizon phones. Terrible devices.
And for the region, you need to look at the specs for the International and Latin version and see if they have the same bands that your carrier uses. A lot of times non-domestic models will be missing crucial cell bands and leave you stranded without signal in areas.

There are two A15's. A 4G/LTE version and a 5G version.
They have different chipsets / processors if you are doing some more homework you can compare their spec sheets and benchmark performance results.

I would say the camera lens spec and pixel count contributes to the photo image quality with pixel binning and/or, er.. , Quad Bayer processing etc. though not always. I don't completely understand all the camera terminology; I just read a lot of reviews from good websites and channels to pass the time commuting.

OTOH a 108mp or 200mp main camera on a budget device will not generally yield the same results as a 50mp camera on a flagship grade device.

If you have a lower powered SoC then that will affect the photo quality as it needs to process the image, which also in turn depends on how well the manufacturer sets the software up initially or on later updates if it has been criticised.
You genuinely gets what you pay for but photo quality on lower tier devices keep improving as internal hardware in general gets better and cheaper.

OIS (optical image stabilisation) is obviously a nice feature to have, and EIS for video recording.

It's all apples and oranges, if that's the expression. You are going to make your own decision.

DXOMark (camera oriented) and notebookcheck do very detailed reviews.

GSMArena do great written and video reviews, plus are a go to for spec sheets, as you found. They did not test the A15 as far as I can see.

I am only talking about resolution. Of cause it's so basic the lens and other contribute to the quality of the picture. That's common sense.

How do you know I am not a professional photographer? Are you?

I made it clear if I want high quality photos, I have very expensive real cameras. This is only for point and shoot, That's why I said even 8MP is plenty. It's the HDR (high dynamic range) that I am looking for.

You get that I am looking for a point and shoot play camera on the phone.

I don't play games, so latency time is not important, I think 4G is good enough. Processor power is not important also. I only ask for the later version of Android OS, and HDR on camera.

Thanks
