Hi

I am learning my Samsung Android phone J3V which is using Android 6( very old version).

When I text and want to attach photo, it shows it's from Samsung Gallery. I want to replace it with Google Gallery which I already INSTALLED. I went online and look, I tried to follow but I can't find what they described. This is the link from google:

https://support.google.com/photos/answer/14216276?hl=en

it is likely that the description is for newer version of Android.

I went through "Setting>Apps", scroll to Samsung Gallery and STOP the program, I try to click Google Gallery but it does not allow me to set it as default.

Anyone has suggestion?

thanks

Alan

Thanks

That's what I am afraid of. I am trying very hard NOT to buy a new phone not about the price, New ones are bigger and more importantly, I really don't use the phone except for emergency situation. I am not the kind that hold the phone in my hand everywhere I go. I am on computer all day long, when I go out, I really take a break.

I am more just want to learn about Android so my grandkids won't be able to laugh at me!!!
Lol no problem I hear you

I just want to clarify if you open Google photos you see all your photos and videos correct ? But if you try to attach a video from Google messages only photos when selecting Google gallery while Samsung gallery they all show.
To clarify, if I go DIRECTLY into Samsung Gallery, Google Gallery and Google photos APPs, I can see all the MP4 videos.

BUT, when I open Google Message App, when I go to any of the 3 above, the MP4 videos do NOT show up. Meaning even the videos show up when I open those Gallery, it will not show up when I am in Google Message.

Samsung message only go to Samsung Gallery, but the video will show up and I can attach to the text message.

Thanks

There is no "Advance" in setting.

To verify, this is how I get into setting in Google Messages just to make sure I did it correctly.

Open Google Messages, I touch the 3 horizontal lines as show to go to setting.

This is the screen I got after touching the 3 horizontal lines

I just downloaded the Google Messages App yesterday, it's the latest version:

My phone is just different.

This is a stupid question. I need suggestions on what brand of Android phone with good camera ( image stabilization if not too expensive)?

I have no idea about phones, I got the Samsung because I have Samsung tv and are good.

There goes to show how little I know about this, just started learning.

thanks

128 GB storage isn't much of you take a lot of pictures. I'd recommend at least 256 GB.
I think I am good with 128G. My J3V only has 16G and I still have room!!!

My stepson has the Samsung Galaxy S23 that is $499, I like the camera( not the pixels and all) because it is so much better when taking pictures with back lighting as somehow the face lights up better. My J3V is lousy, if the sun is at the back, the faces are all dark.

How do I find out how good the camera is with back lighting?

https://www.phonearena.com/phones/c...-S23,Samsung-Galaxy-A15-5G/phones/11999,12264

This is what I found, I don't see any info on this.

Thanks

I'm not really sure. I have the S24 Ultra, and I previously had the S22 Ultra. I've never looked into mid-range phones.

What make some phones worth over $500? a lot of them that are newer are in $120 range. What are you looking for that the cheaper ones don't have?

I am born cheap, my middle name is cheap.:D:D:D:D:p

Thanks
Camera
Battery
Screen quality
Speaker quality
More Software/security updates
The midrange is priced to take a lot of the high end features out to save cost even water resistant rating

Thanks everyone, I am an odd ball, I don't need fast processor, I have not even filled up the internal memory that is only 16GB after 6yrs, I have a 128G SDcard that sits empty for the last few years. That's not an issue at all. I have very fast processor on my laptop at home, I don't need any computer power.

As for security, I don't even put my play email address on the phone, no banking, no payment or anything. I don't even put any security to open the phone, just one swipe across the screen to open the phone. So none of the things mentioned on that matters to me.

My real question that I am willing to pay more is whether the camera can automatically adjust the faces to be bright enough if the sun is at the back. Usually for normal camera, it only look at the overall brightness and set the exposure. So if the sun is at the back, it will make the faces dark. I know some phone can recognize it's back light and adjust to optimize brightness of people's faces and just let the background white washout.

I know, this might be too technical, I was a photographer, that's why I am picky. I know the more expensive Galaxy S23 can do that. I am just hoping after 6 or 7 yrs, the cheaper new phones are better than my OLD Galaxy J3V.

thanks

Have you considered a midrange Google Pixel? That would probably be the inexpensive option for photos on a phone.
