How can I stop my phone automatically switching to reverse charge

[Android Central Question]

For a month or so my phone automatically selects reverse charge mode. I can't be sure, but I feel like my battery drains much faster now. When connected to power, I have to always switch to charge on usb options. Sometimes it tries to switch back to "supplying power to connected device" but I always get it to charge. More annoying thing is when not connected it always switches to reverse charge, with the usb notification showing constantly.

Ok, I moved this to the P20 Pro forum for more specific traffic. Hopefully someone with that phone can give some input on the issue!

One thing is that the choice of USB use doesn't stick with other phones as well (the Pixel 2 reverts to charging eventually, even if you set the preferred option, in Settings, to be MTP) something evidently no one Beta testing Pie or Q has reported to Google about.
