How can I stop Verizon update

Until today I've been able to ignore update to lollipop. But today the notice gave me 2 choices: install now or install later. I chose later, then it asked me to set a time. So it appears I'm getting the update I don't want tomorrow at 1 pm, unless someone can tell me how to prevent it. I'm not going to root because I'm not a techie.

The only way to prevent it (other that keeping the phone off) is to root. Once you do that you'll still get notices, but the update will "fail" (it'll stop because updating a rooted phone could brick the phone). If you want to stop the notices altogether (and stop the phone from getting notified), freeze the update app (for which you have to be rooted).

If it works like it did on my GS3 then as long as you don't check Start Automatically you can just keep delaying the time and then when it asks you again, delay again. I'll find out because my G4 just did the same thing as yours did.

I too have been avoiding the update and I got the same options. One way I have been able to keep it delayed with out setting up an install time is to hit the back arrow instead of one of the options on the screen.

Eventually it will pop up to remind me to install but I just clear the window again hitting the back button.

Might work for a while at least. Not sure how long until they force the update.

My phone and my wife's did that too...it automatically downloaded it when we were out running errands, so yeah not on Wi-Fi but of course it counted against my data. Thanks Verizon. You suck once again. (I have no other viable alternative where we live)

Me too. Annoying. If I just hit home, I get out of it. There is still the checkmark notification icon. You can also try stopping system update under application manager, running, but that doesn't seem to do much else. I hadn't been nagged for a while. I figured they'd pulled it.... Now this.

I was just coming here to ask the same thing! I'm rooted so I'll check to see if I can freeze the update app in Titanium Backup. What is the name of the Verizon Update app?

Earlier I was getting ready to post "Yeah! Verizon got smart and has stopped bothering me to download the update."....instead I discovered they just stopped asking. Guess I'll just keep hitting the back button.

I am with you all. I reluctantly updated my phone to Lollipop a few weeks back when the first OTA notifications appeared on my beloved G3.
Sadly that update was a total bust that RUINED my phone. I made sure to tell my girlfriend to AVOID it on her G3 at all costs while I dealt with Verizon to make sure that they sent me a G3 replacement without Lollipop! They were nice about it.

Finally, 2 days ago I was done setting up my replacement G3 and excited to forget about the whole experience when:

"SYSTEM UPDATE READY TO INSTALL" !!!!!!!@#%!#@$@#$%#$T%@!$#R%

The damn thing found its way into my phone and like you all I am now constantly pressing the BACK ARROW to prevent the update from setting an INSTALL TIME. I am crossing my fingers that this thing WILL NOT decide to INSTALL itself without my permission and ruin another 2 phones, though I already have the feeling there is nothing I can do other than shut the phone off...

I called LG who pointed the finger at Verizon. Then called Verizon, said there is no way to stop it!

HOW CAN THEY FORCE US?
They are forcing me to ruin my phone! Not even for something good! Lollipop is counter-intuitive!

Another thing: ROOTING WILL NOT SAVE US ALL (as it has been proven by various users already. The update still will force itself upon a rooted phone and install as well!).

The reason I want my phone in Kit-Kat, without root, or anything else? Because LG G3 stock WORKED. It worked so well that I never even thought of updating it or rooting and was happy with its simplicity. Rooting is not for me and I don't look forward to doing it right now, specially not after I wasted 2 weeks trying to fix and troubleshoot the disaster Lollipop created in my original G3.

Is there truly NO WAY to prevent this?! Not a service I can disable? Nothing?
Hours of research on this issue aren't bringing up any options other than taking a chance with a root. FML

Some people are reporting that they no longer have the option to deny the installation. Their choice is to "install now" or "install later".

For some of us, Rooting isn't an option. With this forced update (and no longer being able to deny it), I did the following. When it popped up I hit the back button, then went into application manager and did a force stop on the System Updates app.

I know it's not a longer term fix, but it has given me 20+ hours of peace I didn't have before.

Company subsidised phone. Rooting phone is an evil no-no according to our "legal" department, i.e. the guy who makes the rule.

There's something wrong that we may have to root this thing to keep it working as designed with the factory loaded software.

If you root, freeze the app with Titanium Backup, then un-root. This would work in theory and keep your phone unrooted per policy.
