so im gonna try to root my official 2.1 by flashing that new sbf and installing a custom rom to get root.

how do i back up my contacts and my apps where i have saved information?

Contacts and apps are backed up to your gmail if you have the option checked.
Sms can be backed up with wave secure

Btw... the back gmail backing up everything doesn't always work. I actually lost my all my free apps once. The paid app of course was still there, but I had to download again as it never synced.

I've lost free apps also more to do with the Rom I've flashed to then Google.

i lost my apps but i backed everything up using astro. my droid now runs jrummy cyanmod and i just bought setcpu....

WOW....just WOW....

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't even know astro did that.

I believe you're right. Just put a new ROM on and it did it again. Went back to cyanogen and everything loaded.

ASTRO is good at backing things up but you loose the ability to update the apps you back up. Once rooted titanium is a better alternative. You can restore app data so the market knows you have it

Actually the market didn't know what apps I had but once I came back to it an hour later, they were all back. I guess it takes a while for all those apps to sync

Shouldn't take more than five. Minutes for the apps to show in the market. I miss those roms. That downloaded the apps for me
