How do I do this?

Now that I have been using Gear VR on my N5, it won't play my videos normally. When ever I try to play them within my Gallery, it says to put on the GVR goggles. I've tried everything and looked at all the settings but the only way the video will play is if I launch it through a stand alone video player like VLC, Power Media Player. What is the video player that is used when GVR isn't installed? Anyone have any ideas. Could the original video player have been uninstalled when GVR was installed?
