How do I drag files between Mac and Samsung A3?

I've got Android File Transfer on my mac, and I know I have at some point succesfully dragged files between these two devices but now when I connect the phone AFT does not see it.

I have tried this by unlocking the phone first but still nothing.

I don't want to do this wirelessly becuase I'm draging music files over all day long and I prefer wired connections.

With the phone connected, do you have a notification that prompts you to change the connection type?

You can also use Sidesync for Mac. That's Samsung's own program and it works over wired connection too.

Sorry, I see in my notifications now I can tap on the prompt you mentioned. There is no opiton to 'Allow' though...

Samsung smart switch just says failed to connect to device.

There won't be an "allow", the connection notification, when tapped, should come up with the prompt in my screenshot which allows you to select file transfer mode.
