How do i fix the contacts and messenger issue on Android 6.0 for my Moto X 2014 (2ndGen)

I updated my OS to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Since then my contact list and call logs have disappeared. The call logs are blank and the Contact app only shows "Contacts list is being updated". In Messenger, I can see the sms list but when I try to open any sms or try to send a new sms, the screen goes blank. How do i fix these issues?

Thanks a lot. Clearing cache helped me with contact list problem.. Yippeeeee..

Awaiting for the sms issue. Lets see if I receive after few hours..
