Android Central Question

I have the new Samsung S22 Ultra and have used Google Messages as my default SMS app since my S10 days. But this new S22 version changed the chat bubbles to green instead of the usual light blue (still dark blue for my fellow Google Messages app contacts), with no option to change the colors. Also, the entire top half of my conversations screen is blank and it just says "Messages". How can I change the colors, and how do I get the top of my screen to be the start of my conversations??? Please help!!

Uninstall the Google Messages app and go to Google Play store and download the Google version of Google Messages. I'm guessing it's possible.

Welcome to Android Central.

I've been hearing about this change and to honest I don't have my device yet so I really don't know much about the settings or options, yet. I hope that changes soon but for now I what I can tell you is that the upper portion appearing *blank* as some have complained is intentional. It is mean to put things within reach for one handedness. Scrolling up should move things up the screen but as with the whole Samsung One UI design thing I do not believe there is a way to default this away. You might check the app settings themselves to see if there are any display options for this but this is a One UI thing designed to start things within reach of one hand holding the phone at the bottom putting things more within reach and it is in most Samsung skinned apps.

If you register we can move this post to the S22 threads where you can discuss this with other S22 users who may have more advice. It will be interesting to see if that is possible but I'm betting it isn't, at least the uninstalling part, as it is a native app. I could imagine it maybe allowing one to install a second version, as with Contacts and other apps....

This actually helps explain a lot! Thank you for the info. It doesn't necessarily make it easier to live with, just explain it!

One thing that's annoying is Samsung's version of Google Messages also doesn't have the option to translate iPhone emoji reactions so now I'm back to getting a separate text message whenever an iPhone users reacts to someone's message. This was working fine in my Fold 3. I don't understand why they can't keep up with the same version and features as Googles and why we can't uninstall and use Googles version. Samsung thought it was a good idea to make Google Messages the default which was good in theory but poorly executed.

It did for the first couple of days until they sent out an update. I had them on my s21, but going back and looking, they are not there now either even without Sammy's skin. They may have found an issue and pulled it back.

I hope it comes back if that's the case. It's still there on my Fold 3 and I've updated that one.

same here. Green chats even from other Android users whom showed as blue and included all the RCS features on my previous Note 20 Ultra. Now, even fellow Android users show as green and rcs chat features are gone. Yes, I have chat features enabled. Really missing having the emoji reactions finally enabled on my Note 20 only to backtrack to those being omitted on the S22. Sigh.

I heard about the feature, but never got it on my 10+ , even though I'm a beta tester.

The Google/Samsung message app usually gets updated after the regular Google message app and I believe that was available in beta not sure they released it yet

It was officially released to everyone. Hope the next update adds it.

My texts are also green. Ugly! RCS is navy blue, which looks nice. I understand that it's just a color, but to me, it looks terrible. lol. They should have a way to at least change colors!
