How do I get my Nexus 7 2013 second gen tablet off of the Google screen?

nexus 7 2013 second gen tablet stuck on Google screen

I've tried the 1st level of recovery/reboot, but it does not work; It simply goes back to the Google screen and stays there. Suggestions?

Welcome to Android Central! So you're able to get to the screen where you select Reboot, Recovery, etc.? But if you choose Recovery, it just freezes at the Google screen? No Android lying on its back with a "No Command" message?

No. It's been quite frustrating because I've seen several youtube videos that demonstrate how to do what you have described, but my tablet never gets me that far (ie no android robot lying on its back).

Not sure what to suggest, because doing something like flashing the factory image would require you to get into Recovery Mode, I think.
