How do I make the "i" capitalize when using it in a sentence but not part of a word?

Anytime I type a text message to somebody and use the letter i when referring to myself it never capitalizes it automatically on my Note 5. When I had a Note 3 it did it automatically. And also when using a , in a sentence speaking out a text message it spells the punctuation out rather than just putting a , there like it does when you say period it puts a . there.

I have the same issue, i just type the letter "l" (L) and carry on... You can't seem to get into dictionaries these days...
