I'd like to move my outlook contacts to show up on my new Optimus S phone, however I do not want to use gmail to do this and capture all these in my gmail account. Does someone have a walk-through on how i can do this via some other method: SD card, ???

Thanks

If it's exchange you could sync exchange. If it's just outlook, not on excahnge, i think there are software solutions such as missing sync which can help.

You can also take your contacts in outlook and export them to a VCF file, then i believe you can put the VCF file on the root of your SD card and open contacts, press menu, and select import. The VCF will probably need to be in the same format as how the phone accepts it so you might want to open contacts, press menu, export the contacts, copy the VCF that creates onto your PC, and compare against your VCF you want to import first.

EDIT - One more thing, if your outlook account isn't on exchange there are companies who host exchange accounts for a monthly fee (typically $8-$10ish) which would not only sync your contacts but also your outlook calendar and provide real time email (push) to the phone.

yes just outlook, but not exchange

I have outlooked synced to hotmail, but not to exchange server.

There should be a way to export to a file; you can save it to your card then import to the phone.

Edit: look for a vcard option.

MyPhoneExplorer - Outlook sync with Android

I never post on these things, but figured I had to here. I spent DAYS combing through boards and comments to find anything that would sync Outlook. I was missing all of my birthday stuff, the addresses were screwed up and in general I do all my emailing and calendaring from my PC, so didn't want to have to deal with all the stuff in the cloud and maintaining it in two places.

Download MyPhoneExplorer. It does exactly what you're looking for. I actually turned off my Gmail syncing in the accounts on the Android and just sync manually every few days with my Outlook on the computer. That's how I did it with my Bberry and frankly worked fine for me vs. being constantly synced with the cloud. They have the app on the market and you also have to download a client to your computer to sync up with it, but works fantastic and allows you to preserve settings from Outlook or from phone or basically what you're probably looking for Sync both. Program is awesome, you won't need to look for another. Here's the link for the client download (and you can get phone app from market).
