How do I recover a deleted file without rooting on Galaxy S5 with Android 5.0

I accidentally deleted an extremely important audio file. Recuva and similar programs that I've tried can't access the phone with Android 5.

This is an employer-provided phone, so I cannot root it.

Am I screwed? Please tell me there is hope!

I highly doubt you will be able to recover any file without root.

Some files you cannot even recover WITH root. Sorry about that :(

External programs can't access the directory storage, just the files (that haven't been deleted). There are 2 methods of recovering deleted files from a computer (Windows, Linux, MacOS, it doesn't matter) and both require administrative (or root) access. You have to get into system areas of the storage medium (the directory itself), or make an image of all user storage, things a non-root user can't do.
