How do I set my ringtones for my messages to be different from other notifications?

Custom Ringtone for MESSAGES+ Must Not Be the Same As For Messages

I used to use Messages as my text app and was able to add a custom ringtone with the help of this thread (following DeltaGal's instructions) Thanks!
When I switched over to Messages+ I lost the ringtone. Yesterday I followed those directions again. When I got to the last part, my ringtone was already in the appropriate folder. Switching back to Messages, my ringtone works. How can use a custom ringtone in the Messages+ app?

Have you checked the menu of the Messages+ app itself? Open Messages+, tap Menu, then Settings, and look around for any notification options. See if you can specify the notification tone for the Messages+ app itself.

I hadn't read that one. Read it while I was sitting in the Dr's office this morning. I'm going to go back and read it again but the impression I got earlier today was that it was for individual text messages (to assign different ringtones to different people). I'm just looking for a custom ring tone for ALL text messages.

Those instructions were for individuals, BUT, I DID find the general "Tones" with my chosen ringtone in it this time. It wasn't there before...really, it wasn't!

Sorry, I missed the part about All messages versus Individual. Glad you found the setting.
I've had things that appear that previously were nonexistent. It's like the phone is messing with us!

Wellll, I didn't distinguish between individual or all messages so...my bad. Is it me or are our phones acting more and more like our comfusers?
