How do I set the password up on my Galaxy s8+ for Samsung Notes app?

I had to do a phone reset. Obviously, the password to my Samsung Notes app went away. Now, I can't seem to reset the password. I have reset it, I THOUGHT, but, the app still opens without my having to put the new password in!
How do I set it up again?
